The Best/Worst Album you bought on a whim
We've all, at some point, bought an album on the basis of one song we like, or an intriguing cover, etc.
What have you bought that you have regretted or continues to impress?
For me.
Best: OK Computer - Radiohead. I heard Paranoid Android a couple times and went out and bought the album.
People - Hothouse Flowers. I'm a big fan of the Pogues so on seeing a bunch of Irish rockers with mandolins I thought Why not?
Worst: I'm such a tightass I rarely buy an album unless it's inducted to the Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame but I do get caught.
A Wheatus album because the song "Teenage Dirtbag" was stuck in my head. Crap.

Re: The Best/Worst Album you bought on a whim
Best....... I think that would be the first Less than Jake album I bought but can't remember its name
Worst..... Wheatus also lol, that teenage dirtbag song is catchy. I have bought another that turned out worse but can't think of what it was now, thats how bad it was.

Re: The Best/Worst Album you bought on a whim
I bought Unit by Regurgitator after seeing them live in Coogee Bay, bloody great album and I still listen to it now more than ten years later.
Bricks Are Heavy by L7 is an album that I bought after seeing them perform on The Word and it's another that I still enjoy.
I don't think that I've ever bought a crap album on a whim, but I've been given a couple of crappy ones as presents.

Re: The Best/Worst Album you bought on a whim
I've never bought music on a whim. There was always a good reason to buy. A review or recommendation.
The most disappointing album I've ever bought was X+Y by Coldplay.

Re: The Best/Worst Album you bought on a whim
Best = Iron Maiden - Number of the Beast. I bought it because I really liked Run to the Hills. One of the best decisions I've ever made.
Worst = Feeder - Yesterday Went Too Soon - utter utter crap. Not even deserving of a second career as a coaster for drinks.

Re: The Best/Worst Album you bought on a whim
Tool-Undertow, I sold it some time after I felt all the songs sounded the same. Some time later I was convinced to really listen to it and now I think it`s amazing
Tom Petty-Full Moon Fever, I thought it was an amazing album and then eventually, as my tastes expanded, I thought it was so damn boring.
Sublime-40 oz to Freedom, No matter how many times I listen to this album, I still love it.

Snap.
I had a HMV token a few years ago and decided to buy something by someone I'd never heard of. I went in and picked up that months Q magazine and looked for which album had been given the best review that month. It just so happened it was by someone I'd never heard of so I got it. It was Original Pirate Material by The Streets. Mega.

Re: The Best/Worst Album you bought on a whim
Best was Pulp - His N Hers, couldn't get 'Common People' out of my head, so went in, bought the only album I could find by Pulp, it didn't have 'Common People' on but it was purely fantastic. I still get all horny to 'Acrylic Afternoons'.
Worst was Athlete - Tourist. bought because I'd just met a girl who was going to see them. had no idea who they were, but it was just terribly boring.
