No way Herr Hales. Those first 4 albums will rock your socks off!! They've blown monkey cock for nigh on 20 years now but they ruled in the 80s.

Aye, a big thumbs up for 80's Metallica, but their treatment of Jason Newstead (always the outsider, 'cos he's not Cliff) who was eventually forced out of the band (lucky escape I reckon), the napster campaign and lots of really weak albums have put me off. The last album that I bought was 'Black' and that was the beginning of the end.

They had their day in the sun but after the whole napster thing it was all downhill. Oh now, it went downhill with Load and Reload, Napster was just how they showed everybody that they were turning into whiney old men.

I agree, the albums from the beginning until Justice for All were decent. After that they were just another gimmick for white trash that made it to the top.

Hey, one of those old pictures you posted up there, it looks like Dave Mustaine. Do you have any pictures from the days of Dave Mustaine before they kicked him out?

I used to think the same thing, but the Black Album is not without it`s charm. I was 12 years old when it came out and it`s what turned me on to the band, even if it was their sell out album!

I have to be perfectly honest with you. I was exactly the same (except I was 14), this album got me interested so I went a bit further back and eventually found that I preferred the early stuff but there are some good tunes on Black.

They put his ass on bus from the East coast back to the West coast (which is a long ride in the States) because they couldn`t deal with his angry drunk persona. To clarify this further, they had all been squating in half-built buildings while they were touring with the little money they had or could make.

Then he went on to form Megadeth, which had roughly the same ratio as Metallica of good albums to bad albums, and nearly the same degree of fame.

Master of Puppets is a great album.

Orion is Metallica's best song imo
