I LOVE Carabao. Been listening to them for two decades. They can rip off alot of western songs sometimes, especially reggae, but they're still (IMO) miles above most other Thai bands.

I stopped listening to Carabao in about '91 when I went back to Oz to go to Uni. When I came back in '96 I didn't see anything I liked.

For me Caravan are much much better. Bit more folk/traditional, less of the cock rock shit.

An observation, I've come across both Add Carabao and Nga Caravan while walking along Ramkhamhaeng road. Add was driving his Porsche, Nga was on foot.

Some of my recommendations for Thai music in this vein.

He lives in Phuket. I've seen them both, Carabao's musicians are better. Caravan is the better man though. Kinda like the son of Bob Dylan and Che Guevera a la Thailand.

I'm not much of an Eagles fan so I don't get the comparison. Carabao are much better musicians even if their songs are kinda simple. Joe Walsh at his best could never play as good as the one guy in Carabao with the handle bar moustache who plays the firebird guitar (not sure of his name).

As for the entire band being whores...I don't agree. Sure Ad Carabao might be huge hypocrite in what he says and what he does, but I never heard anything about the rest of the guys in the band. To me a whore is someone who sells sex...like at Nana Plaza for instance. Someone who uses their talent (or lack there of) to make money is a capitalist. Maybe they are all sell-outs, but like I said, who knows what the rest of the guys in the Carabao band think or say. So calling Ad a hypocrite, sell-out douchebag might be more accurate than calling the guy a whore. I doubt he's working as a katoey at Nana!

As for selling that Carabao Dang and Chang to the poor farmers...
There's all sorts of shit that people eat and drink that aren't good for them. Pepsi and Coke are OK? What about that bettle shit the Isaan people chew that has a stimulant in it that gives them energy to work and not get hungry? You see what that shit does to their teeth and gums? Who's flogging that crap?! Some asshole is gonna sell bad shit and some assholes are gone buy it. I guess Carabao saw a market and went for it. The popularity of energy drinks like Rockstar and Red Bull is huge in the US now.
As for beer...people the world over are gonna keep on drinking alcohol until the end of time!
As for Ad's comments in the Bangkok Post about the US deserving the 9/11 attacks...I didn't read it and I don't want to get involved in a discussion about US foreign policy, but having said that...
The US CIA trained and paid Osama Bin Laden to fight the Russians in Afganistan while at the same the Bush family made countless billions of dollars with the Bin Laden family. No one deserved what happened on 9/11 just like the Iraqi people and the Afgani people don't deserve what's happening to them right now. The US brought the 9/11 attacks upon itself due to the arrogant and irresponsible foreign policy that it continues to uphold.

Finally, I went to see Carabao live the other night at the Tawandang German Brewery the other night and it was a great show! Ad is a good front man and it's obvious that the Thai people there (the vast majority of the audience) love him/them. (They also love Thaksin too, right?) They're great musicians, their songs are fun and it was an very enjoyable concert. Personally I think it's better that Thais like Carabao as opposed to Michael Jackson, who is still idolized by many in Japan!

I started this thread by asking if anyone out there likes Carabao, right? Personally, I don't care if you don't like them, think they are whores or whatever! Maybe those who don't like them should start a "We hate Carabao" thread, eh? Might be a more appropriate place to vent your hostility...Up To You!!!

Interesting you mention that, Carabao's 1989 hit Tap Lang demanded the US take back michael Jackson and give them back the Narai image (don't ask me to go into the politics behind that issue) BTW I'm in Japan and I don't see MJ any more popular here than anywhere else.


Power to you, I don't care if you like Carabao, I'm simply suggesting there are other(IMO better) bands out there

I love Carabao but always seem to miss their concerts. They are scheduled to play the opening night of the new Phuket Brewery (across from Tesco) on 21 November. Has anybody heard how much tickets might be or how to purchase them?

When they played here it was 2,000B for a table of six, with one quart of Thai whiskey, free ice. But since he owns Phuket, who knows what he'll want there.

There's a phone number to call for info, probably help if you can speak Thai, but who knows. It was 50 baht for admission when I saw them at Tawandang Brewery in Bangkok. But the bill for beers was 2000 baht. If the place holds 2000 I bet it won't be too much for admission.
