I'm in the middle of 'The Riddle of the Sands' by Erskine Childers (who was later executed by an Irish firing squad!). If you like spy novels and sailing, it's a great combination.![]()

I have just read George Orwells 'Burma Days', a bit dry but a good portrayal of the Victorian Sahib and Memsahib.

Just finished Irvine Welsh's latest. Bedroom secrets of the master chefs. Twisted, weird.......very readable.
Reading some Daziel and Pascoe book....I actually turned on BBC Prime (not sexually) last night to watch a bit (never seen one before) to kind of put a face to the characters as it were....and fuck me...magic coincedence (sp?) or what.....it was the one I'm reading (the only one I've read).....it's about coal miners and pedoes!!! Quite good....not as good as Ruth Rendell though....SHE ROCKS!!!
Speaking of Bill Bryson, did you know the reason Americans are left hand drive is when the wagons were being built for the wagon trains heading west the wagon company put the brake handle on the left hand side. Read it in his book about the history of American English a while back.
As for me, at the moment my only reading is Australian Property Investor magazine!![]()
If 6 of the 7 dwarves were not Happy, does that prove that dwarves are generally an unhappy lot?
Got Paul Handley's biog of HM "The King Never Smiles" in Singapore last weekend. Banned here but it's in the airport bookshop over there.
It's very good I think. Goes into the whole history of the lineages, Sukothai, Ayutthya, Chakri, the revolution in the 30s, Ananda's reign and so on. Personally the best book on Thai politics and culture I've read.
