    Re: Books!

Kind of off topic, but what did you think of Filth?

Actually, scratch that, I was thinking of Porno. I didn't much like Filth at all.

And if people have never read Iain Banks those four books there are a nice introduction. Marabou Stork Nightmares is also brilliant.

    Re: Books!

    Agreed.

    Agreed.

Probably agreed. It's certainly up there with Trainspotting anyway. They were considering making it into a film based in Cardiff involving Cardiff City hooligans and using a book a friend of mine had collaborated on as supplementary material. Carlisle's production company to produce and Welsh himself to direct. It was three or so years ago that they were touting it though, so I take it nothing is going to come of it.

    Re: Books!

There was also talk of making a film version of 'Porno' and the original cast of Trainspotting were supposedly up for it but I really don't think that it would have worked without making Glue first in order to introduce the new characters.

Few more books to add to the list:

Seven Years in Tibet - Heinrich Harrer (photocopied)
Made in America - Bill Bryson (photocopied)
The Road to Nirvana - Gina Arnold
The Motorcycle Diaries - Che Guevara
The Picture of Dorian Gray - Oscar Wilde
    The Spire - William Golding
The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon - Stephen King
    Gerald's Game - Stephen King
    Chicago Loop - Paul Theroux
    Hiroshima - John Hersey
    The Partner - John Grisham
    Time - Chart Korbjiti

Got a decent current English Atlas you'll be parting with?

Looks like a good collection. Would have driven the miles a few months back but now I's got a new DVD.

He blows hot and cold in my opinion with The Wasp Factory, Complicity, Espedair Street and The Crow Road being his best and Song of Stone and The Bridge were pretty crappy. I tried one of his science fiction books once (Iain M. Banks) but didn't like it at all.

I saw that book on a list of the Top 10 most disturbing novels ever written, so of course I had to read it. It certainly didn't disappoint! I've yet to read any of his other stuff, though.

Yeah, like LLL said, he can be a little up and down but Crow, Wasp, Complicity and Walking on Glass I liked a great deal.

    Re: Books!

Somehow I seem to have The Celestine Prophecy and Ivanhoe in German. Don't know why as I can't speak a word of that language. Anyone care to take them off my hands?

Sorry mate, if I could find one I wouldn't part with it easily.

I tried to sell a load of books a while back for much less than 200 baht per book and had very few takers. In fact, the response was so poor I just gave them away in the end. A Thai friend tried to sell them on Sukhumvit Road in some areas popular with foreigners, but they just wanted to pay 20 - 40 baht per book. Tight fisted gits. Don't think I'd bother again.

    Good luck!
