    Help Textbook for Matthayom 6

    Hey everyone,

Just wondered if anyone has any recommendations for a textbook or any resources for Matthayom 6. I have a book of past exam papers for university entrance exams but also want to use a book that deals with the four key skills. My students are intermediate level (on average!). Just knowing what other people/schools use would be really helpful!

Basically my school is run like a business rather than an educational establishment, so my boss won't let me use resources as and when I find them and photocopy them, he wants me to decide on one book and get it photocopied. For all the other grades the school uses Gateway, but for M6 they want me to focus on exam preparation and preparing some students for TOEFL or similar exams. (Not sure they have thought this through as most students would fail these miserably! TIT)

    Thanks in advance! :-)

Make a trip to DK Books. They have every imaginable textbook that may suit your intermediate students' needs. More importantly, you will find a textbook there that suits YOUR teaching style and needs.

At my school I'm using the Cambridge IELTS Intermediate and Advanced for M4 and M5 respectively. They deal with the four skills, although you'll not be surprised to learn that they are very much geared towards the IELTS exams. I like them though. The units are quite focused and quite easy to use.

Guy Mandude is correct. Think about your needs. Find out what universities most of the students are aiming for and what type of exams the students will have to sit. It'll really help the students if they have had lots of experience to the types of tasks they'll be tested on. It'll also help you be accountable. By that I mean if any problems or questions arise you can stand behind your choice of materials - 'I purchased textbooks and taught material specifically geared towards what the students were going to face bla bla bla'.
