Anyone here ever finished a book?
Writing with the intent of being published is a difficult task,
especially the initial manuscript.
A writer has to be dedicated to his writing,
persistent and disciplined to over come the many obstacles.
If you took the time and made the effort to write a book,
what message would you try to communicate?
What would you want your readers to learn,
to come away with, after reading your book?

Probably something about turnips.what book would you write?
Why do you ask mate, you're not thinking of doing anything so vulgar as attempting to knock the Bible off the bestseller lists, are you?![]()
Just asked an honest question and hoped for honest answers.
Turnips, eh?
I've written two books. One was pubished, and one is still under construction. My first book was directed to a specific audience (those into rhetorical philosophy), thus had limited publication. My current work is an American literature anthology, complete with commentary.

I would have written "The Politically Incorrect Guide to Islam". Unfortunately, someone beat me to it.
REVEALED, at long last: the whole "politically incorrect" truth about Islam's violent teachings, bloody history, backward culture, and morally depraved founder
PLUS: Why the Crusades were justified wars of Christian self-defense against centuries of Muslim aggression
The Politically Incorrect Guide to Islam (and the Crusades)
by Robert Spencer
Exclusive hardcover edition -- not available in stores!
When PC propagandists assure us that jihadist terror doesn't reflect "true," "peaceful" Islam, they're not only wrong, they're dangerous -- because they lull America and the West into letting their guard down against their mortal enemy. And not only do self-appointed "experts" lie elaborately and persistently about Islam -- they have also replaced the truth about Christian Europe and the Crusades with an all-pervasive historical fantasy that is designed to make you ashamed of your own culture and heritage -- and thus less determined to defend it. But now there's a remedy: in The Politically Incorrect Guide to Islam (and the Crusades), Robert Spencer reveals all the disturbing facts about Islam and its murderous hostility to the West that other books ignore, soft-pedal -- or simply lie about.
No fatwas please, I'm English.
Mate it's a pretty lame situation where you go on a forum board where there are apparently few muslim members and slag off Islam. I'm all for free speech, it's just boring! If you want to debate the rights and wrongs of Islam the try a board where there is a debate already.
Most people here are happy to debate whether Brits or Yanks are nicer people, at least both sides are represented.
Posts like the above make you sound like an ignorant fool!
Excuse me for not taking this seriously .....

Mate, (or should that be Mein Fuhrer?) I'm not slagging off Muslims, just debating a very topical issue. Unless you are the owner of this board, don't tell me what to debate. And what is this dribble about debating whether or not Brits or Yanks are nice people? Yes, that would be interesting and very worthwhile wouldn't it.Originally Posted by defender

To answer the original point (and apologies to the person who started this thread for my digression), yes I have written a book, but for personal reasons I do not wish to talk about it except to say that it was very hard and exhausting work, trapped in a endless cycle of perfection.
It's not a debate, it's a rant and it's on a thread entitled "Ever written a book?"

i've never written a book. would never attempt anything as vulgar or egotistical. i'm sure that anything i have to say is of absolutely zero interest to anyone.
if you're going to try, make sure it's good. very good.
"...ever wonder why they kill the weak ones, baby?"
To which I responded by mentioning a hypothetical book that I wish I had written. What followed was a summary of that book, not a rant from me.Originally Posted by defender

Yes, never know when to stop editing and changing?
I wrote a local history book once, quite a long while ago, back in Oz.
In one sense it was just an excuse to poke into my family history.
In another it was interesting to preserve all sorts of miscellaneous local history stuff in a form which might see a few copies survive here and there.
The thousand copies printed sold out in a month BTW. And I got paid!
It wasn't a work of art, but it got me interested and I went back to do more study shortly afterwards.
I even got to footnote my own book once in a history essay I wrote at uni. I did it just for fun - how often do you get to quote yourself? What's more, I thought I was very erudite - and I didn't misquote myself either

If 6 of the 7 dwarves were not Happy, does that prove that dwarves are generally an unhappy lot?
