Thread: plane ticket and tourist visa :S

Well if you have a proper Visa (which the tourist one is or is supposed to be) then you shouldn't need a return ticket BUT from Consulate to Consulate they have different ideas as to the requirement....so it's really down to what they think is correct....not what actually is. Where did you get your info from please???

If you don't have a Visa (i.e. you come in on a 30 day stamp) or a return ticket in theory Imm can turn you away this end (they won't though generally).....but the more likely thing to happen is your carrier refuses to let you board as they'll have to bring you back if Imm do refuse you entry (even though they probably won't refuse you entry!).

Your TEFL provider should help you with a Visa that means you definitely don't need a return ticket.

Alternatively you can get an el cheapo ticket for say Laos and and then cash it in on arrival (I think you have to put it on your credit card to do this?) that wil suffice.

I would not do the el cheapo ticket as they are non refundable. Get one that can be refunded.

Also for the visa you get in America you do not need to show a plane ticket. Get the visa first, then by the one way ticket and you are fine.

I've known quite a few people get refunds on them AO (but have to be bought with a credit card) or I would not have suggested....which ones are you saying won't then???

Some Consulates do ask for a ticket I'm afraid....as I said they're probably wrong to do so...but they do ask for it.

For the prices they are charging you must be on the plane.
Thats the major drawback to budget carriers. Believe me mate, I owned a travel agency in SF before moving here. If they were strict 20 years ago its more so now.

For credit cards though I'm nigh on 99% sure you can get a refund mate (PM me and I'll tell you why would rather not post it here).

But to be safe check with the issuer (although I don't think the OP will need to now).

I think we are clear mate. But for like Air Asia they cant refund the seats as its a losing proposition and their profit line is set so low. By a full fare ticket to Penang on Thai and you can get it back thats for sure.

But when you say cheap ticket on here people think Air Asia and 1, 2, Go. At least I do. :smile:

I have gotten visas in NY and they dont look at plane tickets, even for tourist visas.
I think if you show up in bangkok and dont look like your going to be sleeping on the streets and picking through the garbage you will be allowed entry without a problem. i come in and get visa on entry without a return ticket. no worries.
they see an american passport and your fine.

^ Not a problem this end mate rather the carrier not letting you on at the other end (which can and does happen albeit rarely). for supposed potential problems this end.

Not really worth the risk when it's soooo easy to avoid.

Joseph. They are not gonna ask you for a plane ticket. If they issue the visa and you dont go for 3 months its invalid and you have to get a new one. Its no problem with them. What about visa's by mail which is very common. You dont have to mail them your ticket.

Stop worrying. The worst that happens is you apply for the visa with no ticket and they say no. Not one person on this board has ever heard of that. But it they do you can simply buy the exit ticket.

Now to stop you worrying. How are you gonna prove you have a one way ticket out of Thailand?

My wife has never had to show a ticket to get an American visa, buying the ticket comes after you have permission to arrive!! :smile:
