Anyone know anything about Surat Thani/ Mathus School?

Hello! My name is Aleza and I'm looking for work in Thailand right now. I have an interview for Mathus School in Surat Thani. Do you know anything about this school or have you heard any talk? The pay starts at 22,500 a month for 22 hours a week work, is that really low?

    Thanks for the help!

That is very low pay for a native speaker, especially a female. That is the money they pay Filipinos and other non- natives. The school may not be ripping you off, some schools cannot afford much more than $20,000. You can easily get 30,000 plus an annual bonus for 20 hours a week outside of Bangkok.

I'm not interested in working in Bangkok. I don't handle large cities very well. Thanks for the suggestion though.

    That's low.

Is there a housing allowance? Other benefits.

You should be able to do better.

Aleza is Hebrew for happiness. There is 2,500 baht a month for housing. Some minor health care.

That is standard pay for a non-native. Unless you feel like donating 7000 baht a month find another school. There are plenty of schools in rural Thail cities screaming for native speakers right now.

Beats the 15k a month I was offered for 17 hours a week at the local poly school. (Not BKK).

Aleza, you should be able to get a higher paying job than that. Have you tried Hat Yai? Many ajarners work there.

Hi Aleza, and welcome. I would stay away from the deep south as a westener too. You should get double what you have been offered. Don't sell yourself cheaply-have a minimum wage/package that you will settle for and never go below that-it works for me.

Re: Anyone know anything about Surat Thani/ Mathus School?

Aleza, that is low for Surat Thani as there are a few schools that offer 30,000B. Go directly to the schools as teaching jobs through agencies are always low because of the commissions taken.

Also, Surat is a nice town and a good choice if you want to get away from big city life. I live here so if you need help you can send me a personal message.
