Can I just delete my whole profile? I looked, and so far I don't see a way...
I'm really sorry for everyone I offended. Things were made obvious to me that I should have seen ahead of time. I didn't think before posting.
The whole thing has made me think. I will pay much greater attention next time before coming up with something that inflammatory.
Wow. If I could start all over again, I would. If I could find an icon for apology I would use it.
Double wow. Green... Red... I get it...
I don't even know if I have anything to say or ask now. I think I got all my questions answered, the hard way. Well, it was a good lesson.

I'm pretty sure, (and I've been off the sauce lately) that you did originally start your original thread (all teachers are losers, or some such nonsense) in the Newbie room(?)...then it was moved to the pub, and finally to the ice box. I think anyways.
Apology accepted.
If you are that concerned about your reputation with this nickname, just stop posting with it and get a new one. People do it all the time!
BTW: Re: apology... humbled... wrong forum...
Your title for this thread is a little misleading....
forum = ajarnforum.net / eslcafe forums / etc....
thread = a titled "run" of a certain topic
post = one written submission
room = pub, ice, newbie, etc...etc...

Re: apology... humbled... wrong forum...
Vegan, that was a good post and apology. In all honesty, had you posted the same drivel in the Newbie room you would have gotten exactly the same responses.
Now, welcome to the board. After reflection if you have questions - even of the quality of the teaching population of this delightful country - feel free to ask them. Remember, it's often not what you say, but how you say it.
Now...fresh start. Welcome aboard.

Re: long intro and a different soft of question, maybe
Vegan might be tough. Fish sauce is used in everything. I'm not even sure that many Thai's understand the concept of vegetarianism/veganism. It just comprises a much smaller subset of the population than it does in the West. I was vegetarian for years, and when I got to Thailand I was thankful that I wasn't at that time. Outside of Bangkok may be especially tough.
Are you a vegan Leeds?

Re: long intro and a different soft of question, maybe
No I'm vegetarian which is much harder to explain than veganism. Thais generally understand the concept of veganism due to the เจ festival and the (often temporary) vegan eating habits of many Thai-Chinese.
For anyone who is interested vegetarian is มังสวิรัติ mangsawirat or mang for short ie. ผมกินมังฯ Pom gin mang.

Is dairy even much of an issue? I can't recall many Thai dishes that contain it, although I'm sure I'm probably overlooking something....

Re: long intro and a different soft of question, maybe
Not at all and I don't think that there is one Thai dish that uses cows milk, in fact it is fairly difficult to persuade Thai people over the age of about thirty to drink cows milk at all and that soya crap is preferred. Fortunately a lot of schools give out free cows milk and the kids seem to like it.

Nope, more common is coconut juice or milk, at least in southern dishes. I prefer my curries with some coconut milk...very nice.
I think being a vegetarian in Thailand would be a breeze. Buy from the food stalls near the wats would be my suggestion. I've always found more vegetarian food available there.

The writer must have written that after a few to many bong fulls amid naked hippies in a Pai commune.

Re: long intro and a different soft of question, maybe
I agree with bet, bite the bullet and go back to school. If you can finish off your degree and get a teaching cert it will make life much more pleasant. But do it back at home. Some places will give you emergency certification and allow you to finish you degree at the same time while working. Then you'll have every thing you need: the degree, certification and experience. Some districts will even pay for your school or loans. But if you do come over here those loans should be wiped away very quickly due to the tax benifits. And even then some schools will even pay off a portion of your loans if you have any left!

whence ajarn?
Hello, should I have tacked this on to my original newbie post? I was just wondering, where did the name ajarn actually come from? I thinking Thailand is not for me. But I wonder if there is something similar for Argentina, because that's what I'm leaning towards. So that's what I'm researching now. Is this too off-topic? Thanks, Dean

Re: whence ajarn?
Basically, "ajarn" means "TEACHER" in the Thai language.
Argentina may be a decent teaching location but I guarantee that there is nothing near the online community that ajarn has.
Check daves esl cafe forums and look for links from there.
