Re: Hello! Q's from a Certified Teacher
Hi Mini,
Don't mind some guys on here, as they can be very critical and judgmental if they don't know you. I have the same qualifications as you, and have also worked in Korea. I have also looked into International schools while abroad. Check out these websites, as they are important ones to get your resume on, and get invited to the International school job fairs that are around the world at different times of the year.
TIE Online - Teach Abroad: Get An International Teaching Job And Pursue An Overseas Career In Education
Teach Abroad: Search Associates
Let me know if you have any other questions.
---
For other information - To be a teacher in Canada, you have to take a three or four year (honours) bachelor of Arts degree. Then you need to apply to get into a teacher's college, which is a one year program in order to obtain a BEd.
There are also concurrent programs that are four years, and you get your BEd. at the same time as your B.A.

I said that already. Same in the USA.
So, phukethound, Say I have a Masters, a BA and a high school diploma. Last I heard, except for some European nations, you need a BA to get a Masters, and a Masters to get a PhD. So would I need a BA to get a B.Ed in Canada? Should I mention I have a high school diploma on my CV, or would that make me look silly?
Believe it or not I'm trying to help "my new foe." He's committed an error in my judgment, that is if this is the way his job queries look. And two Summers in Korea isn't exactly cultural immersion. He could find more cultural diversity traveling around Canada. And how long were those summers? I'd leave it all out. Makes him look like he's digging too deep.
Thai admins love a teacher who has Thailand experience, even better married to a Thai person. Should he put his vacation in Thailand on his resume too, or that his wife was with him?
What he has going for him is his B.Ed, that's about it. He's only 27, he couldn't have all that much teacher experience. And he wants to come next year. Shit, the way things are going he might get a gig as rector. He might be one of the only White people here. If he's White.

Wait...you are telling me, a Canadian, that I can find more cultural diversity in my own country than I did while being in Asia? Are you actually being serious? How much time have you spent and where have you been in Canada...please answer that question.
If you think I made such a heinous error in my own thread then please don't reply to it. Why waste your time helping someone who obviously has no clue and is digging so deep. Just leave me to my sad, pathetic ways and I will quickly be unemployed and weeping in Thailand.
By the way, this isn't a job query, it's asking people in the know for their advice on types and job info. I didn't realize that my first post would be read by potential employers and needed to look like my resume. If my ways and 'expectations' bother you so much then jog-on.

First off, my username is Phuketbound, what about that don't you understand?
Secondly, going by what the op has said. He has experience teaching in Canada, as well as a BEd. That is why many on here have suggested that he look into International schools. He doesn't must have a BEd, he has experience in his home country which is well sought after when applying for International Schools. If he has two year experience than he should have no problems getting a job at one of these fairs.

Re: Hello! Q's from a Certified Teacher
Phuketbound...thanks for the links and advice. I noticed there is a fair in Toronto this Jan/Feb. Do you know if I need to sign up with that website in order to attend the fair?
Are you already in Korea? I'm assuming by your info that you have yet to arrive. I really enjoyed my short time teaching there. The hours were painful but the kids were great.

Re: Hello! Q's from a Certified Teacher
February 7-9, 2005Toronto, Canada Search Associates
Teacher Recruiting Fair
Tel: (570) 696-4600
Teach Abroad: Search Associates
I'm pretty sure that you have to go through search-associates, or tie online. I know for the one at Queen's in Kingston, you can apply on their website. This is the information I got online for the one in Toronto.
I'm going to Korea very soon for my third year. There are some good paying jobs in Korea in public schools. I can see why you want to go to Thailand, but based on what I've read here, and your experience.. I'd say go into an International school if you can. You probably won't get paid much in Thailand working at a language school from what I've seen on job ads.

Re: Hello! Q's from a Certified Teacher
Stupid!
Look, there are 80 EFLers in this town. 20 of them are certified teachers. What's the big deal? An extra year of university? Damn, that's something your mother would be proud of, not us. All the talk about getting a gig at an international school
Of these 20 ELFers don't you think most of them would want a job that paid more than 32,000 a month? Click the link I provided. In Ontario they are asking outrageous qualifications for a low-paying ESL teacher, and cultural diversity is written in just about all of them. Summer school in Korea is like being Tomb Raider or something? They're not asking for a TESL certificate, they're asking for an Onterio TEFL certificate. Is a Thai adminer going to piss his pants with glee when he sees this CV is no ordinary EFLer, this guy got his TESL in Onterio or Toronto.
