Hi there
I am a new member and dont really know my way around this site yet so please forgive me if I seem to have already posted this up!
Right, down to the nitty gritty!! I am currently living in Thailand (Samut Sakhon to be exact) I have already had an extention contract from 4 months, extended to the end of the second term, Feb. Now I am considering staying on in Thailand to teach, as I really enjoy it and find it extremely rewarding (although sometimes VERY annoying) but it comes with the teritory I guess! I dont know if the school I am at will extend my contract again, although I will be talking to them about it in the not to distane future. If worst comes to the worst, or I feel like I dont want to sign another contract and would like to move on, how easy is it to get another teaching job (pref full time)? I only ask this as I realise that it will be the school holidays...!
I am looking at maybe moving into Bangkok as this seems to be where all the teaching jobs are (obviously). I have been reading forums that native western teachers should except nothing less that 40k here.....? I am though on at the moment 34k inc apartment. When applying for jobs would this be a good benchmark....?
Any information would be gratefully recieved. I am a little worried as come Feb I might not have a job and dont know if I can really afford 2months with no pay whilst living here and would have to unfortunatly move back home.....
Thanks for reading

Do you have coke?
I would ask your school now if they plan on extending your contract. If your doing a half-way decent job I don't see why they wouldn't extend. That should come with a pay raise and a few more personal days. If not start job hunting. 40K is what you should be getting, but as of late it seems a great deal of schools are offering between 35-38. .
As far as it being easy to get a job: the answer is yes
As far as it being easy to get a good job that pays well and treats the teachers well: the answer is no.
Good jobs are out there but not as easy to find as one would think.
Even if they offer to extend your contract, it might be from May on. Many schools do that to save paying money during months they are closed.
If they do that, you could try to find work at one of the language schools to get you through till school opens.
You might get a little more in Bangkok, but will probably find it's more expensive to live there.
Question? Have you been working all this year and did not plan or see the end of your contract season, which ends in Feb.?
It can be easy to find some work, but most language schools will keep those who are already working for them on their list and won't if neccessary hire any new teachers for the March - mid May period.
