30000 BHT salary cap imposed by thai government for teachers? Fact or fiction?

At the moment i am planning to move back to Thailand for a while and teach again. A friend of mine, currently residing in Khon Kean, was told the maximum salary for an English teacher in Thailand at present is 30000BHT? Is this complete rubbish or has the Thai government found another way to screw the farrang?

You have to eat dog as well. Come on, dont listen to silly folk tales. I know very few teachers making less than double that.

That was my listed salary on all of my work permit paperwork but it is not my actual salary. When I asked about it I was told that the work permit would not be approved if the salary was listed as more than 30k. Yes, I teach at a gvmt school.

At my last Gov't school I was told the gov't pays the 30k and the school/parents pay whatever else - not sure if that is true or not.

I work at a government university and my current salary is listed on my contract as 19,700 baht. That's not the amount I get at the end of the month though

    Still 30,000 to much.
If you English teachers were any good , you would be out of work by now.
The kids you taught English to , would be English teachers themselves.

Most teachers I know make less than half of double that.

    And what's wrong with dog?
There are few problems in life that cannot be solved with toast.

One of them, however, is opening a can of corned beef with that stupid key. This cannot easily be done at the best of times, and toast is of surprisingly little use in resolving the issue.

Dont look at me blake. In Bali I loved the sun dried chili spiced meat. With Balinese mates we could drink a lot of Bintang and eat a lot of spicy meat. Dog it was I found out later. Still think it tasted great. A spicy jerky.
