Hi there people,
I am a complete newbie when it comes to teaching English as a foreign language. I am flying to Thailand on the 22nd of November with the intention of teaching and living for a year in Thailand. I have a few questions to which as of yet I have had conflicting advice.
I have gone down the route of paying a company £240 to place me in a job before I go. It will pay about 35 thousand baht.
My questions are is this a waste of money? Should I just find a job whilst i'm out there and save the £240. Is 35 thousand baht ok money for someone that lives in Bangkok? (I have a BSc, 120 hour online tefl course and 1 years teaching exerience working as a teaching assistant in Leeds).
Lastly I have approximately 30 thousand baht for my 1st month in Thailand before i'll be getting a regular pay cheque. Will this suffice for my 1st month or will I be struggling?
I would be very appreciative of any advice you are able to give me.
Yours greatfully, Kam.
Yes.
You'll get by, but money will be tight. You have a degree and some experience, so you should be aiming for 40k+.
Won't be worth the paper it's printed on I'm afraid.
You'll be struggling, that's nowhere near enough. 200,000 baht is far more realistic.
Do you have coke?
30 grand in your first month in Thailand, forget it. Have you been here before? Surely you'll want to be out and about looking at things and taking it all in. Can't do any of that on 30K. Even with a furnished apartment and your deposit paid off, you'll still be living on the cheap.
Definitely cutting it tight.
I would want to have some emergency backup funds in place just in case.
