No no hire me! I have all the same qualifications except a different degree, a different TEFL cert and an additional penis.
Life in the 'burbs ain't so bad, at least where I am. Isaan prices but still close enough to the 'kok. Our school will be hiring soon & I suspect there'll be a mass exodus in May. You'll be a direct hire so will get paid for the full 12 months. Starting salary will likely be 35k but bear in mind your rent will be 3-4k!
Darn it. After I posted I just knew using the word 'additional' would probably imply 'additional'. Ok, more than imply. But what I was really saying is I have a penis, unlike the OP, even though that is an example of how our qualifications are the same despite being totally different. So will somebody hire me please? I mean, the penis shouldn't be a problem, this IS Thailand after all, and there's all kinds of acceptance here or various methods of sorting things out. I know some schools help with visas. Do you think they'll help with my penis?
Maybe if you 'help' the person in charge of hiring with his penis, it could help your cause. I'm willing to offer a handy, but that's as far as I'll go...I think.
You did not just imply that, Flea! You made a clear and unambiguous statement that you have an additional penis. I was intrigued. Now, I feel a sense of disappointment.
Well, this is Thailand. You could apply for cabin crew.
Any good school should be able to sort out the paperwork for your penis. It takes a few weeks though.
^ Same goes for me. 11 month contracts should be treated with the contempt they deserve.
Well....gone slightly off track here but thank you all for the advice. I guess I'll just keep looking...back to the drawing board I go...![]()
The same reason why there's an exodus at all these schools that advertise all year round I suppose - the intolerable but seeming inescapable conditions. Our school didn't advertise through this last year as they instituted a policy of 'no new foreign teachers to be hired until everyone is on 50% more periods'; when teachers were sacked or left they simply gave their periods to the remaining teachers.
As for the may date specifically, everyone thinks the school might try to pull a fast one with the holiday pay / 'bonus' of the teachers who don't sign new contracts. Others are just using it as a back-up in case they don't get another job.
Hi Mhairi:
please tell us more. Is the contract for 9.5 months or 12 months? Is there a completion bonus? The October holidays
are almost a full month. That brings your real salary down.
OTOH, I had to pay for several VISA and extensions and Visa runs etc. And my particular school turns out to be run by dishonest folks who - given the chance - will
always opt for extra cash versus honesty. Playing with contract terms after a contract was signed seems to be something Thais love to do.
You are native but young and inexperienced. Getting the foot in the door and fulfilling a year's contract will be a good stepping stone for higher paying jobs next year.
Most only make what you are making.
Do you like the town where you would be working?
Have you visited the school?
I dream of getting help with lesson preparation. That alone might save you many hours' work!!
Do you really want to return to the job front, apply and take interviews and get requests for (unpaid) demonstration lessons?
I found a job. It's not the greatest and the pay is lower, but I like the location.
Enjoy your free time, go on holiday of earn some money. I would dot give up that job for the chance to make a few grand more.
Who knows what the down side would be?
Cheers, Mel
