We are new to Thailand and Ajarn, any advice is welcome!!

    Hi everyone

My boyfriend and I have been in Thailand for a week, we are now in Phuket. We came here to find teaching jobs, both recently took a TESOL course, he has a degree but I don't (just a couple certificates), and we both do not have professional experience teaching - so we are very new to this!

We are planning to job hunt in southern Thailand first (Phuket and surrounding provinces) and hope for the best. We are aware that it will be much more difficult to find jobs in these areas because it's everyone's dream to teach by the beach ... yet we are still going to give it a shot - we can afford to survive for about two months here before finding a job. If we struggle with this we are open to job searching elsewhere in Thailand.

Because we are so new to this and especially because I don't have a degree, I was thinking about trying out an agency. I am aware that there are lots of scams and downfalls to legit agency's even, but I have also heard that going through an agency can be very helpful for newbies.

If anyone has any advice for us especially regarding agency's and schools (ideally in Phuket or anywhere in the southern provinces) we would appreciate it so much !

    Thanks for reading! Cheers

Can't help you with teaching near beaches, but Crew might be able, as far as Phuket's concerned.

Stick around. There are plenty of people who can and will give you the right advice here.

I live in Ayutthaya myself, and there is an agency that I know that is definitely not interested in anything else except providing good teachers to local schools. It's not near any beaches though.

I think patriotism and nationalism should be avoided as much as religion and prayer.

Good luck with the move and the job. You should be able to find plenty of work down that way. Don't go through an agency though. Just get out and about in an area you want to work in.
