Greetings fellow forum members! I just settled into the Khet Prawet area of BKK a few days ago, having spent the last few months in the rice paddy area of Udon. Came to Thailand last November, worked as a volunteer English teacher in Thailand's newest province, Bueng Kan for 3 months. I'm a retiree from America who just got married a month ago and am starting to look for a teaching job to keep myself busy and out of trouble. Had some college, have a TESOL certificate, some volunteer literacy teaching experience in America and the volunteer experience in Bueng Kan. I just started replying to job postings on Ajarn and just joined this forum today. Went to Seacon Square the other day and put in applications at the schools on the 4th Floor, ECC, just to name one. Wondering what my prospects will be like. I'm short on experience and have no degree but love helping others to learn. I speak a fair amount of Thai and am motivated. Anyone want to hazard a guess or make a prediction what I'll be doing some months from now.? Teaching and contributing to Thai society or just hanging out at the local eateries and bars.

Thanks for the welcome. I just talked to an Australian who works with the ministry of education. He said there is a mandate now that all schools have at least 1 farang on the staff. He said it bodes well for all those looking.

Thanks for that prediction Fred, catch you at the local MickieD's
An Australian who works for the ministry of education in Thailand?? Strange, but not unplausible. That friend would be a useful contact to know for most of us... would he come on here some time and give us the inside low down on culture courses, TCT tests, etc??
work in your area... try upstairs at paradise park also. And Central Bangna... there's a load of shopping malls around here come to think of it
Never met the man personally only a phone contact, friend of a friend, thru a facebook posting to my Thai friends. you never know how you will
meet someone, never hurts to tell everyone what you're looking for. He could be a member of this forum, I should ask him.

I believe he said a Native English Speaker not necessarily a farang (westerner).

thanks for the advice, I'll be checking out the area, still trying to get my bearings, already visited Seacon, Paradise Park I'm not familiar with, is it another mall?
Yeah, paradise park is about 200m down the road from Seacon.
Hi khun Rich and welcome. I think you're going about this the right way with the language schools although most that I know of want full-time teachers with degrees and a "good" TEFL (whatever that means). Is the Aussie guy an older gentleman who's been here for about 20 years? If so, I think I know him and I think he's a consultant for them.
Another thing to do is go for privates in your local area, you might even be able to teach in the bar so you combine both.![]()
