Actually I enjoyed my stay in a Thai hospital, had aircon and fast internet for one of the few times during my trip. If worst happens then catching a night bus to Vang Vieng and running around a river with a can of spray paint for food and accomm isn't too difficult![]()
so your view of the 'worst happening' is you get to go anywhere you want and have a good time?
motorbike accidents, muggings, dengue fever, they happen routinely to foreigners in Thailand. and when they happen you don't just get on a bus to a place where you don't have to deal with them. Thaiiland is the real world.

Crashed a bike into a tree and pretty much had no skin on my left arm so was pretty gruesome. I've honestly always felt safe in Thailand, I've spent 12 months in Southeast Asia and apart from the hospital trip the worst things were my credit card being swallowed in Koh Phangan and some dastardly woman stealing my Bintang Bali vest when I sent it to the laundrette
Hopefully nothing major happens to me but even if it does it will still be 10 times more entertaining that sitting at home playing Football Manager for 10 hours a day!
Well, no one can deny you have spirit. Go for it!
Seems like you just want a cushy working holiday before you move on, no commitment, no plan, no money. Do yourself and the kids a favour, work where you are, save enough money to last six months, come over and teach in a village school for minimum salary, and have a holiday.

so you're bored with your games and you think teaching will be entertaining. Teaching is real a job with responsibilities. It sounds to me like after a month of teaching when it gets as boring as football manager you'll be on the next bus to vang viang to play in the river.
I enjoy teaching but I also enjoy having a good rave on the beach, I don't believe that they're mutually exclusive. I've taught in the past but that was when I had some money to burn, but now I actually need to save some which is why I'm really concerned about savings and salary, plus teaching is actually entertaining and usually good fun. Regarding the commitment, I'm more than happy to stay for a year but don't want to physically tie myself in as, amongst lots of positive stories, I've also heard many negative stories about employers so I'd like the freedom to walk away. Remember I've never taught in Thailand and with all the agencies about I'm hesitant about trusting them basically.

The thing is I do, I have enough money provided I find a job within a month. I'm mainly concerned about living on 30k (that seems to be the average starting wage) a month and whether it would be viable for me to work here, as much as I love teaching and Thailand I want to live a decent lifestyle as well.
Who cares if I treat it as a 'cushy working holiday' as long as I teach professionally and give the kids a good education? Hopefully I sort out my technical issues and see you lot in the Khaosan Center for a cheeky Chang sometime soon!![]()
Keep us informed, will ya?
I'll end up in the casino tomorrow night most likely, hopefully I'll be reporting some winnings! Not sure if that last post was genuine or some well disguised sarcasm, but forum don't worry, you shall be kept informed/see me on the bridge by MBK begging![]()
