    Lord, yes.

My first couple of years here were pretty poorly paid. I couldn't have had any fun on that pittance, but I had an eye on the long game (a good call incidentally.)

I also fell for the ol 'teachers' accommodation on site bullshit. This is like a stable where beasts of burden are kept overnight until they are put to labour when the sun rises.

I invented the blues on that job. Me and Ol' Blind Lemon Whiteboard Marker, singing the mournful songs of our benighted existence. Then Tommy Steele arrived with his skiffle.

White lines - don't do it.

There are advantages, especially if you need somewhere to sleep off your hangover, or a quiet place with a fridge to top up

Indeed. I was a two shirt a day man back then.

Now, even a lunch hour there is verboten. Nobody can return there between 7.45 and 3.45. Why? Well, because it's another rule, even though foreign teachers going back there never had any detrimental effect on the school.

The last 'westerner' left there 5 years ago. It's all Philippines and China (and India) now. The new rule wasn't that accidental then...

the overall theme here is "Do as I say not as I do".

Incidentally I have no idea how much I got here with. 2k GBP rings a bell.

    ---Update---

so maybe i have a little idea..

    Bobby's off on holiday
    Away across the sea
    Setting up his easel
    A new scene to see
    Says that he's had enough
    Of standing in the rain
Now he's looking for the good life
    With European pain

    Did you know
    Your garden's overgrown?

Running out of money in Thailand is disasterous. You'll find many doors being closed on you and the locals will have zero sympathy, as a skint farang is alien to them.

Then again guess how much I originally landed with.
When I was in America a guy told me to 'have a nice day' but I didn't, so I sued him

This is a rubbish post from me but it helps me psychologically. If you have funds in the account for a rainy day, it also motivates to save a little too. Makes it easier if you already see a lump sum in the account, just to notch it up every month (even on 30k a month ) a few baht here and there.
I've started my own blog. It's not very good -
