How much does a visa run typically cost?

    Hello-

About how much is the practical cost of doing a visa run from Bangkok to Laos (or anyplace cheaper/doable) to change from a 30-day visa waiver to a double-entry tourist visa? Thanks for any infromation.

Thank you, Magilla. Is that with or without the cost of the double-entry visa itself?

i'd figure 10K. the visa to Laos will cost you 30-40 USD.Thai visa will be something like 1500-2000baht.
Bus or train round trip; figure about 800 baht each way. Then you got time spent in Vientinne. Thats up to you.

Take some extra $$$ and enjoy yourself. It's a nice city with some good food.

Catch one of the (several) agencies that do the regular run up (twice a week - departing Sunday and Wednesday evening).

3800 baht including the double entry tourist visa but not including your beer or wine tab.

I've heard about this cheap arrangement too but it only seems to apply to nationals from the ASEAN countries as they are exempted from the 30-40 USD visa fee.

Thank you, Ttomplatz. By agency, do you mean a teaching agency? Do you have to be teaching with their agency to use the service? Or do you mean a travel agency? Sorry.

Well, VISA fees alone are $ 30 / 35 and early or Sundays another $ 1 for Laos = some 950 Baht. Do not pay in Baht, they will rip you off and take some 400 Baht more than the official exchange rate!

I've been going to Vientiane. Going there by train from Bangkok (take the 2nd class sleeper, get a bed, arrive in the morning). Or by bus from other cities.

A few hundred meters from the Pizza Company, walking away from the embassy on the side of the pizzeria is LAKO guesthouse, charging 500 for an aircon room. and try the French bread - baguette on stalls. A good one is near the bus station. There is a blue bus going from the border to the bus station for 25 Baht.

I always spend about 5,000 Baht with 3/5 going towards Visa fees.

Yeah. I'm a Merkin. My minivan tour to Laos for my non-immigrant B visa from BKK cost me about 6500. More or less. Includes the hotel room and some meals, i.e. buffet dinner and breakfast at the hotel in Laos, as well as two 30 baht vouchers for food at a pit stop on the way there and on the way back. Other food, drink, etc. will be extra, of course.

Sorry- one more addition, please: After a 30 day visa waiver, when applying for a double entry tourist visa at the Thai embassy in Vientiane (or elsewhere?), do you officially need to show an onward ticket for exiting Thailand at the end of the tourist visa? What has been people's practical experience with this?

No, they don't care if you have onward passage.
