    Anyone used teachabroadthailand?

I've come across the site which claims to get you a job even though you don't have a degree. I'm 23 and bit fed of UK and I've been to Thailand before and loved Bangkok, I'd like to go back to teach for a few years, I don't have a degree though. Most jobs I've seen advertised do ask for a degree. I'm educated to city & guilds level 3.

I did google that website and found a few good reviews, but realised there's probably a way which is a hell of a lot cheaper to do it.

Does anyone have any advice? Anyone recently gone over without a degree and got into teaching?

No degree and want to work = jump on a plane and hit the bricks with resume/CV and cover letter in hand.
Put on your best BBC accent and you will find work. It won't likely be the best paid work but you will find work.
If you are any good at it (being a teacher) you will soon find lots of opportunities knocking on your door.

Without a degree legal work with proper visa and work permit are not likely in your future (so regular runs to the border will be).

NEVER pay anyone to get a job in Thailand.

Thanks for your reply ttompatz, is there a tefl course you recommend me doing in Bangkok? Yes when I've been away in the past it's been on the 'if you want do it, do it' basis with not much notice. I have a lot of things to finish here in the UK first so I won't be going until end of November.
I did like the look of that site I posted but it does seem very pricey, and I'm sure there must be a cheaper alternative.

Was your reply talking from past experience?

this should not be treated as a minor point.

without a work permit, some critical aspects of life in thailand get much more difficult (opening a bank account, getting a drivers license, staying current on immigration status). if you're a good teacher, a language center may take you on and sponsor your work permit but don't expect that to come through for a while. without a degree, forget about working legally in mainstream education. if you wish to maximize your income, don't even think about areas like phuket and chiang mai. as well, your income will be lower and some schools might take advantage of your situation as they know you'll be less likely to more on.

also, be aware that while many will tell you to get an education visa, you cannot work legally while staying in thailand on one.

finally, whatever you do, don't get a fake degree. those days are almost over and penalties for teaching under a fake degree are more harsh than teaching without presenting one in the first place.

Yes I only really want to do it in Bangkok. And no I wouldn't think about getting a fake degree, the last thing I'd want is to end up in a thai prison!

I've found a few sites which do courses and 'guarantee' you a job at the end, not sure how certain that guarantee is.

Crew, have you worked in Bangkok?

    ---Update---

found another site which do CELTA - cactustefl, anyone ever used them?

you need to be careful of such claims. what will usually happen is a TEFL course provider makes agreements with schools to constantly supply them with teachers. the course provider will skim wages from the top and you'll end up working in schools that don't have much support for foreign teachers.

you're a young brit who wants to teach so that's already a great start. since you don't have a degree, nor teaching experience, it would be helpful to get a TEFL qualification such as a CELTA or its equivalent. no everyone will agree with me, listen to all sides of the issue and decide for yourself.

    good luck.

And how long could I keep doing the visa runs for? Is there a set limit?

    ---Update---

Think I've worked it out, can get a 60 day visa with 2 entries, then get a 30 day extension in thailand. Then do the run and do it again, then I think if I haven't got a job within that time I'll have to come home. Fingers crossed
