    Can be anytime but the normal school/work hours are usuallly the worst. And it can be even worse than that when it's raining heavily.

    Depends on the street though... I live about 6km from my school but it never takes more than 10 minutes to travel there in centralish Bangkok at 7-8am

    Bangkok is a 24 hour city and the "rush hour" depends upon several factors:

    A) The morning from 6am to 9am, and evening 4pm to 7pm when most office workers are on the move and shifts are changing;
    B) The end of the month when salaried workers are paid can make the last Friday impossible all day;
    C) Rain means more people want to use taxis and traffic slows down due to localised flooding;
    D) Some areas, notably Sukhumvit sois 20 - 26 have poor traffic light phasing and are impassable every day. Figure on an hour from Ekkamai to Nana most days.

    I used to live at Ratchada soi 3. It could be 3 in the morning and there would still be traffic jams along Sukhumvit soi 21, then at the Makasan crossing, then at Asoke-Din Daeng Road crossing. A 4 minute taxi road was often 20+ minutes.

    Possibly the same reason I prefer not to use it anymore. Packed like sardines.

    Packed like sardines for 30 min. or stuck in traffic for an hour. Yeah, that's a tough call.

    Not really. At rush hour the trains are so full that at some stations you have to let two or three go by before even getting on.

    You should try it sometime.

    I often prefer to walk rather than use the BTS now.

    The extension from On Nut to Bearing has been remarkably awkward.

    First the silly idea that, despite holding a prepaid card, I have to stop at the ticket counter to pay an additional ThB 15 if I go beyond On Nut is a farce.

    Then there are the "Rabbit" cards themselves. The number of times these fail and people have to head for the ticket counter to get through the barriers is noticeable. The consequent queues at some stations add considerably to journey times, especially at rush hour. At Siam and Asoke we now have to join a long queue to get through the ticket barrier only to then stand behind a mass of people sometimes five or six deep to join a train that is already full.

    Is it possible, I wonder, for us all to club together and use our "carrot points" to buy some additional trains?
