Thread: Such a bad day!!

I'm out here looking for my 1st job. Interviewed and got accepted at a school in Bangkok. The job came with free accommodation on site, i had to go the school @ 10am this morning, then as far as i knew i would be moved into the accommodation, and start teaching the next day. So, arrived at the school to be told "We need you to help in our new school for 3 weeks, then you come back and start working here". They had sort of slid this info in at the interview, but said they were not sure yet if i would need to go there. The head of the school network had told me at the interview it was in Nakorn Pathom, and also told me "yes it's a big city, the school is located by loads of shops, and restaurants etc," and "Your apartment in right in the school grounds". So we get there, not a single shop, 7-11, restauraunt, anything at all for miles..nothing at all...then i'm told the accommodation is actually 1 hour away in the middle of no where, and the school sends minibus to get you at 6am every morning!! so i had to inform them politely that this wont be suitable for me, and i hadn't been told how remote the school/accom actually was. So they bused me back to the big school in Bangkok, and said the director will have a chat about where we can place you..left me in an office for 3 hours waiting lol..after 3 hours i just got up and left, got a taxi back to a guesthouse i had been staying in...anyway rant over, really disappointed and annoyed lol...wasted all day for nothing and a fair bit on taxis for nothing..no job still at the end of it...I don't know if it's against the rules but if anyone knows of anyone who is recruiting, who is at least slightly truthful please pm me lol..apologies if it's against the rules to write comments like that..

What doesn't kill you makes you stronger. At least you found out now, if they were that dishonest it would be worse to find out after a few weeks when you had settled into the job.

Thanks Tommo done...yeh ure right the smiler...at least i found out early i guess lol..wasn't a small little outfit either, pretty well know chain as far as i'm aware..never mind, just keep going i guess...cheers all

don't worry there are loads of jobs right now, this is just part of your eddication. it's going to be fine. just imagine if you started working for these pricks. eh.

Thanks all for the encouragement..i had to rant on here lol as i guessed people on here would no doubt understand!! my only worry is i'm on a single entry, which i can extend for another 30..i've got a return ticket booked for the 17th of October though, so i'm starting to feel the pressure a little..hopefully something will turn up..it just really surprised me that a school can place an advert, then in reality what they offer you is totally different lol..guess i'm learning !!..oh thanks 3 legged kitty! how many posts before u can pm? thanks again all..my mood has lifted again after a shitty day..cheers

Thanks guys..yeh i'm sure it will happen again...actually this is the 2nd time..i applied @ one of the well known language schools in BKK..had two longggggggggggggg interviews..got turned down from one center, but invited to interview at another of their centers...agreed to do it...then they informed me the hours i would be working if i was selected this time, were again totally different from their job ad lol...these hours were really bad...every Saturday and Sunday all day, and 4 days from 4-9pm i think they said..not having to much luck so far lol..and i've wasted a fair bit of time in between interviews..waiting for dates and times and decisions etc...i'm gonna really try and crack on now got about 5 weeks left...

throw that fucking ticket away dood what are you doing. that's causing all the grief. just relax for tonight, pretty much anyone young and white can get a job right now, going home is not an option. take your time, don't accept anything straight away, and dont' start thinking they're all crooks. i've worked for a few bumheads, and these same shitty people will do startingly good things.

one guy who took me on, his wife drove me around and found me a room, and paid the deposit, and lent me 10k baht. all on trust, they knew me for two weeks. she was good uptown local people, but he was an american opportunist who was a little crazed by his good fortune and soon lost all social grace. all the same he got me working at his day job, which was as good as it gets for bangers i think. but this is how it works. you don't know man, just throw that damn ticket away.

sorry it's more like, pretty much anyone breathing and not smelling too pungent will get a job. your pay likely be commensurate with your whiteness. but not always. young people who look desperate will probably not clean up. act like you don't need them. coz you don't.

Sorry to hear that, Ben, but as some others have said, at least you found out the crap in the beginning. Now go get yourself a beer and chill out. Speaking of beer, I just got home from a pub and I had two Guinnesses. Yum.
