What is the ratio of male teachers to female teachers in Thailand. Also, do you think male teachers have an advantage over female teachers for postions.
From what I have heard from other females working in BKK, women are far and few between. It is easier to get a job as a female since I think they are more in demand. Most primary schools prefer to hire woman. This is just my opinion, and others are welcome to chime in.
I figured so, just viewing all the comments on this forum. I imagine women will be more in demand after the recent news.
Women have been more in demand in the past few years purely because of numbers. Thare are more male teachers here and alot of schools, uni's etc. want to hir women.
From your experience, why is it that so many more men come to Thailand to teach? Is it just the Thai women? I am not there yet and wondered if I'll have a good experience being a middle-aged woman. I'm not going for romance, but do you think I will meet women I can hang out with?
Hi, yes, you will meet some women, not many though.
I wont comment on why so many men come to Thailand, but you will probably see for yourself when you get here.
Women have to work a bit harder at their social relationships here just because there are so few, but I have a circle of friends around my own age. Trouble is they come and go.
I will be in Bangkok as of mid October and I will looking to make some girl friends. I hope there are other women around and I hope we can get together once a month and have a beer or go for a facial or whatever. It would be nice to put a face to the names. I will be siging up for a Tesol course when I arrive, anybody have any advice with regards to which companies are better than others, everyone and their dog seems to be offering the course I just don't know which is better.
That question would be good in the Newbie Zone.
good idea, I'll post it there, thanks
I am taking the tesol course in Ban Phe ( TEFL International) starting Sept 25. It's free with a four month paid placement, along with free accomodation. I've heard very good things about the course on Stickman and other sites. We will see what the teaching placement will be like- and the accomodation, but I can endure almost anything for 4 months. Check out Tefl International.

I only know Phuket, there are quite a few women in their 30's and 40's who are smart, funny and a lot of fun. Plus if you just happen to be interested there are lots of hunky Itailian divers (:
