That looks very much like the list I got from the lecturer at the Suan Dusit Rajaphat Culture Course.

All of the books except Educational Evaluation (Blaine R. Worthen) are in the library at Suan Dusit.

It might be possible to get them photocopied on site, say in the photocopy room on the second floor of the library, the room which might be in the end stairwell.

If
it were possible, one might be able to take the books off the shelf and put them in to be copied not long after the library opens in the morning on a Saturday, for instance, and collect the copies around 5pm that day, for a fee of about 3,000 baht, perhaps.

Not that I know anyone who has tried anything like this, intellectual proprerty laws and all. But TIT and 'when in Rome' as they say...

Re: Study Material to sit the TCT tests.

I think that just reading the books gives you a chance of passing the tests but to really have a good shot you need a proper study plan based on the learning objectives/outcomes tested by the test. I would hope that the learning objectives/outcomes would be available as they are for many distance learning programs because without them you really are shooting blind and unfortunately still have a very high chance of failing.

Indeed. Is there anything at all available on the learning objectives/outcomes?

All I have seen is the outline of topics for the exams and that's not very detailed or helpful.

Re: Study Material to sit the TCT tests.

Came across this site, in English, has pdfs on Thai education plan and so on.

Not sure if it's already been linked to, but anyway, looks useful.

Re: Study Material to sit the TCT tests.

Wow! Thanks for the recommendation Stamp and to ALL of you for the treasure trove of info in this thread. I am going to pay for one of my teachers to take this test in October and this will certainly help. Just so you all know, current Thai copyright law states that (paraphrasing): "If an individual photocopies copyrighted material ONLY for personal study, reading or self-enhancement purposes, it is not illegal. Only if and when they try to re-sell, rent, lease out or in any other way attempt to make profit from said copyrighted material, does it become illegal." Copy away!

Re: Study Material to sit the TCT tests.

Thank you for posting all this! I now have lot's of material to study in the coming months!
Stamp - Question, some file uploads like "Statistics for the utterly confused" the link now says they are private. Any chance of them not being private for the newbie here? Thanks!

Grandfathering!

Maybe this has been addressed, but is there a grandfather rule for Native teachers as the Thai teachers have it!

I have been here since May 03. And yes, I have been pretty much ignoring all this crap because I am never hassled for it, but I see the writing on the wall.

Re: Study Material to sit the TCT tests.

I'm pretty sure the grandfather clause is for Thai teachers in two cases only:

1) They have advanced to an administrative role.
2) They have something like 15 years in service. I'll look into this number, but I recall my supervisor telling me about it a few months back and I was surprised to find that some long-term Thai teachers (10+ years) were being forced to get certified.

Re: Study Material to sit the TCT tests.

Possibly worth looking on the following Pirate Bay and Mininova and Demonoid.

I found the latest entrance exam for Triam Udomsuksa school (in Thai of course) on one of them last night. However as it wasn't what I was searching for I didn't torrent it.

I am almost sure it was Pirate Bay looking at my history from yesterday.

Re: Study Material to sit the TCT tests.

Having already stated in another thread my thoughts on all those "opinion" questions, I will not bother trying to study my own opinion...I may not like the opinions held.

Regarding valid study material, we had a girl at our office gather all the books she could but, in the end, it just made for some heavy reading. :-)

One thing I am going to do (since I am assuming I failed at least 3) is do some Google Keyword searches for general things like 'Educational Theory' and also 'Educational Psychology'. In addition, I studied (though in truth, I only skimmed) "Effective Teaching Methods" Third Edition by Gary D. Borich. This time I will make a greater effort.

The book I received for the Thai educational system was "Education in Thailand 2005/2006" published by the OEC (Office of the Education Council) with a stamp saying "Ramkhamhaeng University Library". I am sure it is available at other universities or online (though I don't know where). The topics listed seem very relevant:
Chapter 1 General Information on Education
1.1 Government and Administrative Structure
1.2 Educational Administration and Management
1.3 The Education System
1.4 Transfer of Learning Outcomes
1.5 Educational Standards and Quality Assurance
Chapter 2 New Education Policies
2.1 Government Policy on Education
2.2 Roadmap and Measures for Expediting Educational Reform
Chapter 3 Development of Pre-Primary Education
3.1 Present Status of Early Childhood Development and Pre-Primary Education
3.2 Policy and Plan for Early Childhood Development

In addition, this seems like a good website (OEC in English): edthai.com - sorry I can't put the link, but I am too junior of a member to include URL's in my posts.

Hope this helps some...and good luck with those tests. God knows I am going to need luck even the 2nd time around.
