Eric if you do have to have them shipped from home, make sure the package is marked educational materials and have it shipped to you at work, it saves the Thai customs and excise hitting you for six!

Great advice. I recently got nailed for 600 Baht because I ordered contact lenses that I can't buy in LOS. Paid $300 USD, 1-800-CONTACTS dropped shipped them to me from Sweden, Thai customs valued them at 3,000 THB and assessed me 600 THB duty & tax.

also check out Textbook Torrents : Download Textbooks For Free quite a few books have been scanned in there.

I also got some good texts books at the Baen Saen campus of Chulalongkorn(?) - the uni book shop down there at any rate.
