Has Big Brother come to Britain?
VIDEO: Shouting CCTV Cameras
Over 4 million cameras, being retro-fitted w/speaker systems. Yelling out orders to people like a concentration camp. Doesn't sound like V for Vendetta at all.
http://www.prisonplanet.com/articles...60906Truth.htm
Now the cameras, and the men behind them, shout at you. Tell you what to do. Shame you into the 'proper behavior.'
Four million cameras and growing loudspeakers?
Surely, if this doesn't show you that we have entered 1984, nothing will.
What's with you Brits, letting this happen?
Worse yet, now that it has happened, doing nothing about it.
Confirms my suspicions that Brits are control freaks.
-----
The cctvs catch the average Brit on camera up to 300 times a day.
-----
Notice the ratchet affect: Start with a few cameras barking orders, and when no one complains, expand the number.
Now is the time to complain Brits.
-----
"The limits of CCTV are constantly extended. Originally installed to deter burglary, assault and car theft, in practice most camera systems have been used to combat 'anti-social behavior', including many such minor offenses as littering, urinating in public, traffic violations, obstruction, drunkenness, and evading meters in town parking lots. They have also been widely used to intervene in other 'undesirable' behavior such as underage smoking and a variety of public order transgressions. Other innovative uses are constantly being discovered. 2 When combined with observation of body language, the cameras are particularly effective in detecting people using marijuana and other substances. These systems are used increasingly to police public morals and public order. According to a glossy UK Home Office promotional booklet, "CCTV : Looking out for you", the technology can be a solution for such problems as vandalism, drug use, drunkenness, racial harassment, sexual harassment, loitering and disorderly behavior. 3"

Re: Has Big Brother come to Britain?
i don't think i'm braindead kerux. obviously not up to your superior analytical standard but, y'know, i'm doing my best here.
i've actually changed my opinions a nit about cameras in town centres. i was staunchly against them for a long time. my town has a nasty history of random violence and petty street crime. sad to say i've been on the end of it myself on two occasions, unprovoked. since they put up cameras, suprise suprise, the place is a lot safer now than it used to be.
now sure, there's an argument that the undesirables have moved their naughtiness elsewhere, that may be true but doesn't seem to be the case...i'm not sure.
what personal experiences of these cameras have you got to inform your opinions mate?

That hasn't gone too far?
What's next?
At what point is enough enough?

Re: Has Big Brother come to Britain?
I think enough is enough when the negatives outweigh the benefits.
Don't forget Kerux, everything in the universe is an equation, everything is Math in action. These cameras have a ratio of usefulness, once that ratio is compromised and is no longer equal or balanced, people will speak out me thinks.

Re: Has Big Brother come to Britain?
I don't think so. Look at the response of the first two posters. The topic of constant surveillance is a yawner.
Who cares? Stick a cctv up my kazoo, maybe it's detect a polyp. Nevermind that the cctv is now barking orders at me.

I watched the leader for the Aaron Russo film last night.
What's interesting to me about this is that it used to be lone 'fringe' individuals, the Irwin Schiffs, the Randy Weavers and the George Gordans who were ringing the warning bells. People who didn't have a public reputation to protect as much as guys like Russo.
Things are getting serious when people like this are willing to go 'public' with their concerns, in an effort to wake other's up.
So I find it quite apropo that diaw and others respond with

where? i'm sorry kerux but my pc is too slow to view the video.
i'd put hard cash on there not being any in my home town, the council deliberated for about ten years about the regular cameras, only just got them...can't see them going for these ones.
we're not so dumb you know...massive opposition to i.d. card plans, ever since the war that old chestnut comes up. no government can pass the bill...
so where are these camers that have been installed? how many?
thanks.

Re: Has Big Brother come to Britain?
Security is paramount these days. The more cameras, the less opportunity for ne'er do wells. I keep my nose clean and so being observed in a public place really doesn't concern me. The thought of someone being able to put a bomb in a bin unobserved does. The speaker is for prevention. It politely advises that you're on CCTV. A good thing in my book...
