Who should lead the Australian Labor Party?
Due to Mark Latham's illness, the ALP are once again looking for a "new" leader. All current indications are that it will be Bomber Beazley again. Are they really going to pick this two time loser? Should they? What are the alternatives?
Any Australians (or others) out there have any thoughts on this?

He can speak well, alright, problem is he's a little too fond of listening to himself.

cough, cough cough
errr......can someone please give PJK a call......he could do it for the good of the country...I mean Churchill came back when desperate times called him.
if not I think Mr Burns (Bob Carr) would be better. Bomber seems most comfortable when he has some toys to play with - like tanks, aircraft carriers, subs etc.,
And the final choice could be Stephen Smith - cos one day he will be Prime Minister.
or even L.Tanner
The way things are going they're all gonna get a turn.

Who really cares. The Libs have got the next few elections on the bag already!
On a serious note, if I was ever to even consider voting for the mungrels I might give it a thought if Kevin Rudd was leader. He seems like a decent chap.

Trouble is he seems to be little more than a Labor equivalent of John Howard. Intelligent but terminally dull.
This is also Beazley's problem. In the 2 elections he contested, he lost because he tried to emulate John Howard's policies and strategies. What the Labor backroom boys don't seem to understand is that the Australian public expects their Liberal leaders to be dull and steady and their Labor leaders to be dynamic and progressive. A Labor leader will never win an election by playing safe.

Thats why I like Kevin Rudd Black Jack.
However, just watched the news and he has pulled out of the running. All bets are now solely on Beazly. Which is good I suppose as it means at least another few years in the wilderness.

I realise this Memock, but it's also why he won't win as a Labor leader (unless he turns out to be more dynamic than he seems, to be honest I haven't seen that much of him). I wasn't being facetious, people really do expect different things from their Labor leaders than they do from their Liberal leaders.

Yeah, that was always going to be the case this time around. Bets that he'll last until the next election are, perhaps, not quite as safe.

Any American candidates would be far too frightened and confused by the process in Australia. Some freaky stuff goes on. For starters, in an Australian election, all of the voters actually vote...

I also just found out that WA has finally called their state election.
Liberal Party will win back power and have hopefully learnt by their mistakes.
can you vote at the Aust embassy in for state elections?

Check with the embassy, to be honest for State elections I've never tried. Can't see why not, though.

Does the Austrailian graveyard vote have significant weight?

You could be right, I'm gonna reserve judgement on him and see if he's learned his lesson.
