Thread: Looks Like England has it own Jerry Falwell Types

What say you chaps and chappettes from the UK? Is this kind of thing more widespread there than we've been led to believe. Seems we've been always been told that the majority if not all Christian extremism like this emanates from the US..... i.e.: Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell, Swaggart, Roberts, Angeley, Hagee, etc. etc.....the list could go on...and on.

This is coming from representatives of the State sponsored/approved religion in England.

It's not my view. When a Bishop says it I'm not surprised, so no, I don't think it's an extreme view coming from a Bishop it's kind of what's to be expected innit?

No, I don't. I've heard stuff like that from priests before. Extremist according to who, anyway? I think you'll find a lot of religious people have views not a million miles away from this. It might be a far out view to you and me, but for church goers I don't think they'd be that surprised.
I understood Eso as saying that Christians with such views would normally only be found in the USA. On the contrary I think you'll find Christians all over the world agreeing with this kind of thing. I don't think this is an extremist Christian view at all, having been a churchgoer in the past, when I was a kid.

The Virgin birth. Not an extremist view from a Catholic. Jesus rose from the dead. Not an extremist view of most (all?) Christians. Yet for non Christians these beliefs are weird.
Bishop saying floods are a sign of God's wrath - stuff like that is said in sermons up and down the land every Sunday.

My parents have gone to church their whole lives and they'd dismiss this "floods are retribution" nonsense outright without a second thought.
