Iran is a far more complicated place than you're giving it credit for. It is a slowly dying theocracy peopled with a young population that has grown up with a top-heavy antiquated system of goverment that they are growing to despise. Democracy in Iran is actually alive and well and gaining everyday. That is if the US doesn't fuck it up and bomb or, god forbid, invade, giving the mullahs exactly what they need to retain control for another 20 years. Tom Friedman, in his book "Longitudes and Attitudes" has some very interesting things to say about Iran in the post 9-11 world, check it out, it's a great book and very informative.

What is the only country to ever use a nuclear weapon? What countries do we allow to have nuclear weapons? This push for antiproliferation is racism disguised as politics. Well, that's also a bit simplistic, but racism has a lot to do with it.

A little off-topic, but I just read some newspaper articles that paints Putin with a rather strange picture. Putin publicly asked Bush why "he" and "his administration" fired CBS journalists. This didn't happen, and the notion that the leader of this direlect and former communist nation, would think so, means he may be surrounded by people who are feeding false information willingly or out of ignorance.
