McCain Beats Romney in Florida GOP Race

MIAMI (AP) - Sen. John McCain won a breakthrough triumph in the Florida Republican primary Tuesday night, edging past former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and seizing precious campaign momentum for next week's string of contests across 21 states.

Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani was running third, and headed for the exits. Officials familiar with events said his aides were in discussions with McCain's advisers on a possible endorsement later in the week.
"It shows one thing. I'm the conservative leader who can unite the party," McCain said in a brief interview with The Associated Press.
"It's a very significant boost but I think we've got a tough week ahead and a lot of states to come." The victory was worth 57 national convention delegates for McCain, a winner-take-all's haul and the largest single prize to date in the race.

    It's now Romney vs. McCain.

6 days from now, we'll see.

Regretfully, I see McCain beating Romney because McCain statistically can get Independents that lean republican, and GOP moderates.

    I don't like McCain.

I don't like Romney either, but I like his views on economics and immigration. Romney is younger, at 60, also.

Romney has the Reagan look though. That may benefit him amongst the fickle voters

Unfortunately looks can affect some voters opinion, especially in the braindead U.S.

Romney is a Mormon however, and I'm not sure if this will be a factor to enough voters.

Evangelicals that are polled have consistently stated they will not vote for a Mormon.

But, then who will they voter for? Will they just stay home. I tend to doubt it.

Romney is playing the "family valuse conservative card" and it worked for him in Florida with that group.

Romney has the Reagan look but I think McCain's got the Reagan mind. Great, another empty suit with the VP calling the shots.

yeah he's been cultivating it. That and the age factor and also his business experience make me think its not over yet. Wouldn't be shocked if he pulled the upset tomorrow.

    Huckabee wins W. Va. upset

In the first Super Tuesday result, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee won an upset victory at the West Virginia Republican presidential convention, scoring all 18 of the state's delegates.

Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, who had worked hard to organize in the Mountaineer State, came in second.

His campaign cried foul, saying the McCain campaign sent its delegates to Huckabee in order to undermine Romney.

Huckabee and Romney both made appearances at the convention.

McCain Strings Key Wins on East Coast

WASHINGTON (AP) - Sen. John McCain swept a string of delegate-rich, East Coast primaries Tuesday night, reaching for command of the race for the Republican presidential nomination. Democratic rivals Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama traded victories in an epic struggle from Connecticut to California.
"We've won some of the biggest states in the country," McCain told cheering supporters at a rally in Phoenix after pocketing victories in all regions. An underdog for months, he proclaimed himself the front-runner at last, and added. "I don't really mind it one bit."
With 371 delegates, the Arizona senator was far ahead of his rivals in the competition that counted most. Even so, Mike Huckabee and Mitt Romney said they were in the race to stay.

McCain will be the (R) nominee, IMO.

Romney will bow out within 6 weeks at the latest.

I think McCain will pick a conservative VP that will appeal the to disgruntled converstaive GOP voter.

McCain is pretty much certain to get the nomination as you say.

Who will he run with though?
