The above posts are right. Obama is bankrolled by some major players. You think any nominee could have a serious chance of winning the presidency these days without big money? Of course not....
That being said, can anyone name a better nominee to emerge from either party in the past thirty years? Let's face it. Obama is as close to a "normal guy" as we are going to get out of this process. Plus, he just "feels right for the times", if that makes sense.
^those "major players" won't be wanting real change....you can take that to the bank.
nuckingfutz, where are you? come on out and playyyyy
bye

well, even though I agree that corporate America, which includes the broadcasters, has too much control over the American government, I think that is was great that Ron Paul was allowed to participate in the debates and stayed in the debates all the way till the end, even after others dropped out.
So, yeah, he didn't get as much air time on the political talk shows as McCain and Romney, but he never polled very high, either.
So, IMO, you're going to have to put the blame on the American people if you think that Ron Paul should be the Republican nominee. He was in all the debates, so if more Americans had paid attention to the debates and then went on-line to find out more about Ron Paul, then maybe he would have gotten more votes.
But, in the end, America gets the government it deserves, as it were, don't you think?

Age, colour or gender - that's what the presidential race appears to be about in America.
Has anyone mentioned really important stuff, like economic decline, environmental destruction, soaring food prices, educational mediocrity etc?
An elderly woman in an ATM queue said to the man behind her, "Excuse me, could you help me to check my balance?" So he pushed her over!

I trust those 'mainstream media' polls about as much as I trust electronic voting machines.
Political junkies who watch the more obscure cable shows(and debates) were aware of Ron Paul's presence, but as far as much of anything in the newspapers or the 6 and 11 o'clock News....nada, zilch.
EricC mentioned in his pic thread about his visit back home here in the US, that he saw more Ron Paul signs than any of the other candidates has been my experience as well while I'm on the road.
He and the other candidates advocating anti-war, anti-interventionist policies were marginalized and frozen out by the corporate media.

I posted more on this in another thread, showing the Google trend graphs this man is referring to.
yeah, I've been a strong opponent of those machines made by some dubious companies. In Washington State and some other states they do vote by mail and many states, including California dumped them.
other than that, sure Ron Paul has very strong and very vocal support, including myself but talking with the average joe in America, they don't follow American politics very closely and don't even know who all the candidates running are, so, if they vote, they just vote for one of the few who are talked about in the mainstream media. American people could have watched all of those debates, heard what Ron Paul had to say and supported him, right? so, I still think that no matter how messed up America's democracy is, America still gets the government it deserves.
