Re: McCain Palin
Grandpa McBush and his runner up Beauty Queen! I'm sure the Repugs will make her out to be the next "Joan of Ark".Before you think Obamas got the Presidency in the bag just remember "never underestimate the stupidity of the American Public". Hence Bush in 2004.
McCain fucked up and, in fact, contradicted himself on his choice of VP. McCain said he was going to pick a VP who was ready to be president. Palin has no foreign policy experience and is only a 2 year governor of a small (population wise) state. McCain won't survive a 4 year term, so the choice of Palin was unwise, because she is not ready to be president.
McCain only picked Palin because she is ultra-conservative and a woman. He is working on the HRC voters and evangelicals. Palin won't get McCain any more votes. He should have picked someone from a battleground state.

In a way, I think Obama should have went this route - get a bird (not Hilary), instead of a geezer - although it may be too much for voters to handle.
I get the impression that she is pretty charismatic and a decent speaker so far.
Although if something happens to Mccain (he is 72!) then she is going to have to take the throne. I do not think people have enough confidence in her since she is generally unknown. She is going to have to be pretty damn impressive at the debates.
I think this is going to be one of the most interesting elections thus far.
I am still set with Obama. He is much more convincing than McBush

I certainly think McCain stumbled with this selection, not that I mind, I think Obama is a better choice anyway. This selection, not to take anything away from Palin, smells of desperation. Of course the lack of experience and the one heartbeat away from the head chair makes it more risky. This election season has certainly been entertaining.

Investigation to begin into whether Governor Sarah Palin abused her power in firing Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan
By Corey Allen-Young, CBS 11 News Reporter

Lawmakers will hire someone within a week to investigate whether Governor Sarah Palin abused her power in firing Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan. The legislative council approved 100,000 dollars for the investigation that will find out whether Palin was angry at Monegan for not firing an Alaska State Trooper who went through a messy divorce with Palin's sister. On Monday afternoon, the Joint Legislative Council, filled with Republicans and Democrats, voted 12 to 0 to formally call for an investigation against Governor Palin in a manner—that they are stressing—will be unbiased and done in a timely fashion.
Legislators approved hiring a special investigator to look into the controversial firing of former Public Courtesy, KTOO-TV
Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan. Monegan was fired two weeks ago without explanation and has said he was pressured by the governor and her staff to fire a trooper who was once married to Palin's sister. Accusations have risen that Monegan was fired for his refusal to fire trooper Michael Wooten. The council's intent is to investigate the circumstances and events surrounding the termination of Monegan and potential abuses of power and improper action by the Governor and her administration.
"It is the intent of the legislative council that the investigation be professional, unbiased, independent, objective, and conducted at arms length from the political process," said, Senator Kim Elton, a Democrat from Juneau.
The council's intent is to investigate the circumstances and events surrounding the termination of Monegan and potential abuses of power and improper action by the governor and her administration.
"I think what it really gets down to is after the comma, add potential abuses of power and improper actions is really what we are looking at or at least proposing to look at?" said Representative John Harris, a Republican from Valdez.
Governor Palin has denied the accusations, saying she replaced Monegan Courtesy, KTOO-TV
to go in a new direction. And although she doesn't think an investigation is needed, she welcomes the questions. The council went through a detailed meeting to make sure the process is done in a timely manner with accurate results.
"We will get from this is," said Senator Hollis French, a Democrat from Anchorage, "no evidence of wrong doing, some evidence of wrong doing, clear evidence of wrong doing, that will come back to us."
"At that point the body has to make the decision: 'Is this evidence strong enough to proceed on or not?'"
"I think it should be made very clear because there have been conversations about personnel matters that the issues really that we are dealing with here are not the termination of the public Courtesy, KTOO-TV
safety commissioner," said Harris. Legislators hope that during this investigation that the politics are left out of the mix, which can be hard for government officials.
"What really remains is the most significant hurdle," said Representative Jay Ramras, a Republican from Fairbanks. "Are those professionals going to feel compelled to be subpoenaed before they will speak candidly about what they know?"
Senator French is the Senate Judiciary Committee chairman and is in charge of hiring the investigator. He says he has a short list of candidates and that the investigation should be finished within a few months. Home - KTVA

Give me some sugar.
Republican presidential candidate, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., left hugs Republican Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as McCain announces her as his Vice Presidential running mate Friday, Aug. 29, 2008 at Ervin J. Nutter Center in Dayton, Ohio. (AP Photo/Kiichiro Sato)
In two short years, Sarah Palin moved from small-town mayor with a taste for mooseburgers to the governor's office and now — making history — to John McCain's side as the first female running mate on a Republican presidential ticket.
She has more experience catching fish than dealing with foreign policy or national affairs.
Talk about a rocketing ascent.
In turning to her, McCain picked an independent figure in his own mold, one who has taken on Alaska's powerful oil industry and, at age 44, is three years younger than Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama and a generation younger than McCain, 72.
Palin's selection was a jaw-dropper, as McCain passed over many other better known prospects
"Holy cow," said her father, Chuck Heath, who got word something was up while driving to his remote hunting camp. Palin had been in the running-mate field but as a distinct long shot.
She brings a strong anti-abortion stance to the ticket and opposes gay marriage — constitutionally banned in Alaska before her time — but exercised a veto that essentially granted benefits to gay state employees and their partners.
"She knows where she comes from, and she knows who she works for," McCain said in introducing her to an Ohio rally. "She stands up for what's right, and she doesn't let anyone tell her to sit down." He said: "She's exactly who I need."
Democrats seized on the gaping experience gap and said McCain now has no business questioning the seasoning of their nominee. Democratic Sen. Chuck Schumer of New York said McCain was taking a "roll of the dice" and declared that Palin's "lack of experience makes the thought of her assuming the presidency troubling."
Palin lives in Wasilla, a town of 6,500 about 30 miles north of Anchorage, with her husband, Todd, a blue-collar North Slope oil worker who won the 2007 Iron Dog, a 1,900-mile snowmobile race. He is part Yup'ik Eskimo. The two have spent summers fishing commercially for salmon, an enterprise that once left her with broken fingers aboard their boat.
Typically seen walking the Capitol halls in black or red power suits while reading text messages on Blackberry screens in each hand, Palin made a recent appearance in fashion magazine Vogue.
"At first they had me in a bunch of furs," she said of the photo shoot. "Yeah, I have furs on my wall, but I don't wear furs. I had to show them my bunny boots and my North Face clothing."
Palin's clean-hands reputation has come into question with an investigation recently launched by a legislative panel into whether she dismissed Alaska's public safety commissioner because he would not fire her former brother-in-law as a state trooper. Trooper Mike Wooten went through a messy divorce from Palin's sister.
The governor denied orchestrating the dozens of telephone calls made by her husband and members of her administration to Wooten's bosses. She says she welcomes the investigation: "Hold me accountable."
Palin, who led the Fellowship of Christian Athletes chapter at her high school, could help McCain's standing with social conservatives who have been skeptical of him.
"It's an absolutely brilliant choice," said Mathew Staver, dean of Liberty University School of Law and founder of the legal group Liberty Counsel, who has sought to coalesce evangelicals around McCain. "This will absolutely energize McCain's campaign and energize conservatives."
Palin is "a woman of faith who has a strong position on life, a consistent opinion on judges," Staver said. "She's the complete package."
So experience: City council member of a small town. (pop. 6500)
Mayor same small town.
Then Govenor of Alaska 2 years.
Messed with her sisters ex to get him fired.
Under investigation because of it.
Now running for VP of a nation of 300,000,000 million people with a Presidential Candidate in his 70s.
Poor Choice in my opinion. Now it is up to the voters.

nice job killingme....this story will not go away anytime soon.
I am guessing the pictures will be nocked off the web.
One for the feminists: Sarah as "Miss Wasilla" in 1984.
So she got her experience here:
Wasilla's total of 2,119 housing units have an occupancy rate of 93.4 percent. Owner-occupied housing accounts for 55.8 percent of all units. Wasilla's unique location has helped make it a retail and service center for an area that extends far beyond its borders and beyond what would be expected from its population of 6,715.
A town with 2 regular public elementary school and one public high school.
The water system has 746 customers. The sewer 523 customers.
At the rally Friday, Palin said her oldest son, Track, enlisted in the U.S. Army last Sept. 11 and will deploy to Iraq this Sept. 11. from internet news sources.
Note the date. Coincidence? I think not. At least she is one of the few people in power in American who has a son (soon to be) in combat.
