If not Palin, who?

I'm a registered Democrat, but have occasionally voted for Republicans or 3rd Party candidates. When I vote, I like to look at peoples beliefs, not their labels. I like McCain. I'm not going to vote for him, because I like Obama much more, but I wouldn't be heartbroken if he won. Palin, on the other hand, is a political dinosaur. My respect for McCain went way down when he chose her as his VP. I'm not alone in this dislike, people from all over the political spectrum have been expressing their disapproval of her.

Now, McCain isn't going to drop her now, it would be political suicide. But, if he could, who would be a good choice for Republican VP?

Here's one option: Why I'd Be a Better VP than Sarah Palin

Re: If not Palin, who?

HAGEL
LUGAR

...in my book, that choice was as clear as day.

dont give me any financial "expert on the ticket" stuff. no one VP pick will fix this debacle. we need a foreign policy ticket.

biden does that. and only one look at the crowd in berlin (200k+ people) to see that obama will command the respect/hope of the world, at least at the beginning he will. much more so than any other us president could dream of.

a mccain/hagel ticket would be a foreign policy dynamo. tough one in a match up with obama/biden. fricking debates woulda been fantastic

Re: If not Palin, who?

i love her but more of an icon and rational soul than a person willing to keep to republican talking points. "diane, what say you of the NRA?"

you think the conservatives would buy her? i seriously doubt that

Re: If not Palin, who?

Mitt Romney
If McCain had picked Romney then all the economy woes wouldn't be near as devastating to his campaign since Romney is a entrepreneurial and financial genius. He has more executive and managerial experience than the four candidates on the ballots combined and would guarantee a Michigan victory for McCain.

Joe Lieberman would have made a decent choice as well. Him and McCain working together have more experience on foreign policy than just about any other two. It would also make bipartisan politics much more realistic as McCain has crossed parties many times in his voting records and Joe as a Democrat has crossed party lines as well.

Re: If not Palin, who?

Lieberman. The conservatives are pissed anyway. He would have got the Israel Lobby, the Regan Democrats. He could have done a "we are going to be a bipartisan administration". Might have played better than the current duo. Message to the center rather than the nutter fringe.

Except Lieberman is a warmonger. And the last thing the US needs at this time is another war.

Charlie Crist.

He was my pick as well, way back. At least McCain would have had a shot to win Florida. That loss of Florida (27 electoral votes) may be close to the difference by which Obama wins.

Here's a 2008 election simulation you can play. I always end up with Obama getting 302-365 electoral college votes (270 to win). 2008 Presidential Election Simulator

I think McCain is less than a 10% chance to win.
