Bangkok colleges, universities and private schools will not disclose teacher’s salaries. And surprisingly, teachers themselves also seem to think it’s in their benefit to keep their salaries secrete. Consequently, teaching salaries are effectively demoted to the level of street hawker bargaining. This serves neither the teacher nor the students. A higher paid teacher can spend more time on his students and less time looking for or earning supplementary income. Someone once said information is power. In California and other places in the world teacher salaries are freely available. http://www.nea.org/neatodayextra/salaries.html

As long as teachers remain divided and parents remain ambivalent the institutions will continue to pay the lowest possible salaries, teacher’s rights will continue to be violated and caring parents will have to send their kids abroad or for a decent education.
The first step is the dissemination of information. Inform the public and your peers.
If you are currently employed please post your salary, your background and the type or institution you work for: Private College, Government College, Private University or Language Center. In addition, list any and all benefits you receive.
And most of all keep this post honest, current and open.
