"Most teachers who leave don't do so because they can't 'hack it'. They do so because they've ticked off their boxes as far as travel / living in Thailand is concerned, and they see little point in hanging around in a country where they can't see themselves attaining financial security."
No argument, but there are many who don't last six months and never fit in. Because one does not fit in in Thailand doesn't make that person a bad person, just a bad fit for Thailand. Too much Thai good and Thai bad here, Thai is Thai, like it fine, don't, thats fine too.
Thais are very discrimanatory towards indians for starters (not saying this is the main reason, but it is one). As a farang here, I definitely had my days where I felt like losing it. You just have to smile, smile because you are on 'Candid Thai Camera'. It's not easy sometimes. Although this comes down to how the office is run, what the director is like and what their expectations are. You can always make it work your way though.

It might be their country but it's my world. Don't you just adore that one?
Shit, there is nothing difficult nor mysterious about Thailand. East LA is 100X more a struggle. I'm not leaving because I can't cope, I don't want to cope. If there was something to gain from being here I'd cope. It isn't at all a challenge to work and live here, it's fuckin boring is what it is. Thais are easy to read like last Sundays comics. Sure, a lot of you blokes have wives and kids and good gigs and feel at home here. Good for you.** I live in the burgs, it sucks after five years. Fuckin rude people, trailer trash! And now that I know I'm not quite qualified to teach here I'll go to a first world nation where I am already qualified to teach .. home! There's nothing argumentative or philosophical to be considered. ****
[ English is NOT a native language of the Philippines. Why do so many Phil. candidates state their native language is English? It ain't, it's Tagalog.
Yeah, some of my fellow Flips claim to be native. Such a joke. I have nothing against my fellow Filipinos but I guess to an extent personality, neutral accent and appearance really counts a lot plus communication skills. I am just lucky to have clinched this job with a salary that of a native speaker because of the above attributes. I can't also blame Thais if they prefer to hire whites - it is their choice and it is their ball game.
I am just thankful to be accepted in this school and I will continue to better my credentials so I get to survive here and move to a better pay, better benefits after the contract.
