This is not a personal attack, but I could not help but comment at Reg the Wedge's claims to inside information on another thread ("Consequences of a fake degree"), i.e., that within 6 months teachers with proper degrees will be getting 135,000 baht per month in the next six months thanks to the new powers that be.
So here is my comment: It is not going to happen. That is the salary that one might earn at one of the big international schools.
I am not writing this in an aggressive or accusatory tone, but I am interested: Where did you get this information? A meeting at your school? Did your director tell you some inside information about a ministry meeting? If so, consider the source. Perhaps they just want you to stick around by dangling the elusive higher salary stick in front of your face. It has been done before. Heck, it has been done to the Thai teachers for decades by various governments and they have yet to receive a significant wage increase. If the Thai teachers have not gotten a major raise for decades, why should we?
I would like to be wrong about this, but I think we will all have to wait longer than the six months you mention.
^ Mate pretty sure he was messing about personally.

Ask anyone here my friend, and they will tell you (I half expect the keyboards to be crackling right now!) Reg the wedge is not someone who tells porkies!!

Where would the schools get this kind of money. Let's sy it's a school that pays 35,000 / month. They have 10 western teachers. That's 350,000 baht / month. So, they weed out teachers with not enough qualifications, so let's say that's 2 teachers. So they're saving 70,000 / month, but they are short teachers.
What are they going to do to get the money, sack 9 and keep 1? I don't get it.
You don't have to get it to get it Nat!
You could buy a f*ck-off big flat screen in your first month and not give a toss.
It's gonna be fantastic! I'm gonna take two this weekend..

So, where do I sign up?
It will filter down through the system soon enough but you're going to have to jump through the hoops to qualify.Originally Posted by natalie8

A lot of schools are hopeful of getting handsome young things who will act professionally and are now looking over their shoulders at the teachers they have at present.
Fair enough to say that a large percentage of presently contracted teachers will not be re-hired once it kicks in.
I'd say it's time to pull up your socks and start sucking up to your headmaster if you want a chance at keeping your job.

Newsflash from the Twilight Zone
There will be a time in the next few years ( 5 to 10 )where the Government will be paying Farang teachers directly.( not out of the School global Budget as it is now) All contracts and conditions will be standardized ..Pretty much on a platform of how it is done in China....And they will sack all Thai teachers of English that can't speak English. Oh yeah expect a wage increase but not as much a quoted here
^ that reminds me of when I was younger and I thought my first car would be like the one Luke Skywalker was driving in Star Wars![]()
That's tomorrow's world telling pork pies and us believing it.
By now, none of us should be working, we should have robots to do all the crap, and we should be able to do whatever we want.
