As one or two of you may have noticed, the ajarn.com jobs page is going through a major overhaul at the moment, and should be finished sometime tomorrow (Wednesday)
Let me give you an idea of what's going on.
Gone will be the great long list of jobs on the jobs index page and gone will be the even loooooooonger list of job descriptions on the main jobs page. No more scrolling down long pages of text!
Instead the jobs index will be spread over several pages or more and when you click on each job link, you will be taken to a seperate page for EACH job description.
As well as having all the job descriptions at your disposal, you will be able to link to the (now searchable) resume database and update or send your resume instantly.
Employers can also now (or very soon) search the database for EXACTLY the kind of teacher they are looking for.
Although you can't see the color coding system for the job salaries at the moment, we are going to continue with something very similar.
The jobs board will continue to be FREE for schools and institutes who want a free service, but (and I've thought long and hard about how to phrase this) they will receive very much a 'second-class' service in asmuch as it will take several days for their ads to get posted and free job ads will not go on page 1 of the jobs board.
Page 1 of the jobs board will be reserved for posters and employers who choose pre-paid packages. Depending on which package advertisers choose (and details still have to be ironed out) they will be able to display a school logo, hi-light their job ad in a frame, get posted on the site within 48 hours, have a text link on the main homepage, and of course keep their job ad on page 1.
Most exciting of all, their job ad will go in a special weekly 'job alert' newsletter, which will be distributed to all teachers displaying resumes on the resume database. If the teacher wants one that is.
All jobs in all sections will now be displayed for 30 days instead of the current 20.
If there are any of our current banner advertisers out there reading this, then nothing will change for you guys. Your jobs will continue to be posted on page 1 and your banner will continue to be displayed on the homepage and the right-hand side of jobs page 1.
Why the change?
Well, maybe two reasons. Firstly, we wanted to make the jobs page a slicker and more streamlined place to browse. Secondly, we feel there are a few employers willing to spend money for a better package than that which we currently offer, but need staff on a very seasonal basis. This is hopefully the solution to their problems.
The worst job in Thailand must be the man who has to sit down with a blue marker pen and mark a number two on the two-baht coins to stop people thinking they are one-baht coins.
Ah ha! I was just about to post something along the lines of "why no coloured boxes so I can screen out all the 15k a month jobs ?" when I saw you had put this up.
That is a must have. ( at least for me )

The colored boxes are unpopular with a lot of folks and I got the suggestion to put a letter in the box as well. People will find it easier to look for A,B,C grade jobs rather than yellow, purple and reddish. Not sure I'm going to do it that way though.
It looks really great and well done...but it was handy to be able to cut and paste all the jobs into a notepad text doc, save it onto a USB stick and then take it home with me. (no internet at home so I have to use a cafe to look at ajarn)
I guess I'll just have to do 'em one by one.
NB this is not a complaint, just a mere aside.
I'm there with you on that one 'Slim Chance'.
Love saving the 1 page for reference!
It does look better. But, it is nice to have the jobs classified by salaries. I personally thought there was nothing wrong with the color coding. In fact, it was perfect!
Life is like a box of chocolate, you never know what you are going to get!

The color coding system should be added today or tomorrow at the latest
And also the 'search by province' function
Codes for part time jobs vs. full time jobs (and/or "other") would be useful. Perhaps a colored box with a PT in it for part time instead of a plain colored box for full time.
I have a decent full time job right now, and there's a lot of sifting I have to do to find passable part time work...

I don't like colors because I am colorblind.![]()
It's like I'm speaking a foreign language or something...
Let the Employer specify if the job is Full or Part-time. If the color codes are going to be added again for salaries, to have color codes to specify Full or Part-time too would be confusing.Originally Posted by Bangkok Phil
Well, basically I'd assume that only the pink PT box would ever be assigned as most PT jobs pay less than 15k a month. But it'd be nice to be able to tell those jobs apart from the volunteer spots and joke-jobs for Philipinos at a glance.Originally Posted by Traveler
The employers would probably appreciate it as well -- I know I'd be frustrated if I were offering 600B an hour and had to choose the pink box just because my job was part time.
Maybe just a white box with PT in it would do for all PT positions, color codes only for full time jobs. Or, better yet, a white box with the PT in black for an hourly salary less than 490B an hour -- or a white box with the PT in red for an hourly salary of 500B an hour or more. Doesn't need to be as finely gradated as the FT positions.
Thanks for the effort you have put into this Phil.
Nice one
The first 10 million years were the worst
And the next
After that I went into a bit of a decline
Hi Phil! Great job, but I have noticed the resume section isn't working properly; that is, the area where you can post and edit resumes. Any word on when that will be up and running? As far as the rest, I love it.

Should be within the next couple of days.Any word on when that will be up and running?
This database needs a lot of tweaking at the moment because we keep coming up with new ideas.
