Sorry to burst your bubble science guy, but that test has the potential to be a major money spinner for many thai. if you honestly think you will get your foot in the door, what do you think would happen?
I would suggest that you do not contemplate weekend to pataya with your hands tied behind your back or you might find yourself leaving your 17 floor hotel room by a different exit to the one you entered by/
Personally, I think the ScienceGuy threads are becoming a bit tedious. I would dare say at this point he's promoted his idea enough.
Perhaps ScienceGuy could actually take the course and see what it is all about before he makes his own. Then maybe he might talk out of the correct orifice.

eh, if youre talking per hr then youre paying more for your 1-on-1...I probably will take it this semester. The 20 hours for 5000 baht isn't as good of a deal as my one-on-one lessons with a Thai teacher which cost 8000 for 30 hours...

its main drive is to replace penniless wankers with desperate (technically more qualified) filipinas. i mean, come on, lets look at english teaching as a whole:
1) wages have essentially remained stagnant while the cost of living has doubled (looking at the past 20 yrs)
2) tighter visa restrictions, more paperwork, higher fees with each passing year
3) tons of bad publicity brought on by karr et al
4) students lag behind their counterparts in other countries (chiefly, vietnam)
they want everybody but the cream to leave.
ive met some very good filipina teachers. theyre cheaper for thai schools, far more obedient (ha) than any westerner, and willing to sacrifice their existence for a job. a directors dream incarnated!
personally, i think the new course/tests/license rigamoral is an ingenious invention on the part of moe and the like. and it may just turn out to be fruitful for the country and its education system in the long run.
Yeah but I think that the point about Johnny Thai not wanting his 'nice little earner' being taken away by the big-nosed white devil is a valid one!
