Ok, this is the first time I have ever posted, so please forgive me if I have not posted in the correct forum.
The kindergarten I work at, once again, has hand, foot and mouth disease for the 2nd time in 6 months. We are closed for a week. Are any other schools having the same problem? This seems to be a little too frequent and I have never noticed any other teachers on Ajarn saying they are off school because of this disease.
Oh, AND I have been told to come to school tomorrow to help sanitize the rooms with Dettol. Any comments on this request?

Absolutely. Try to talk them out of the Dettol. There are some very effective natural feralizers sold in one gallon jugs that are both excellent for sanitizing and loads more organic.
Have fun and try not to get any of that in your eyes or even on your skin.

I don't think sanitizing a school against infectious disease is the responsibility of a teacher in any way.
...you get what you need.

I just bought some. It's an antibacterial concentrate. If the school asked me to clean up like that, I'd say, "No, no, no," or in the words of one of my Black students when I asked her to pick up a piece of litter, "Man, my momma didn't raise me to be no maid to you."![]()
yep, and IMO, let Thais clean up their own mafia, too!![]()

1. No way I would not do it. 1. Dettol is just what guy said. In the old days of flooding Sukumvit it was my best friend in the shower. 3. I Dont know what to say.
Too long in Exile, too long not singing my song.
Too long like a rolling stone, Too long in exile
Too long in Exile, baby you just arent my friend.
Too long in Exile my friend, Baby you can never go home again.
Not only would I refuse, I'd start looking for another job. I'm very serious.
I put it on my cuts and they don't get infected. I can't do that with English Leather.
Surely we could name this school as it will make it into the papers anyways. Besides it serves a public health purpose. So unless the mods say otherwise, I'd like for the OP to tell us which school has been so negligent.
Dettol is a bleach type stuff in the UK as far as I remember
Daniel Bedingfield claimed that his new album is what it would sound like if Sting, Stevie Wonder and Micheal Jackson were in a basement together - I haven't got the album so I'll have to imagine the sound of a blind bloke and a Geordie kicking the shit out of a pedophile.
Dettol (also called parachlorometaxylenol, or PCMX) is the name of a commercial liquid antiseptic belonging to a product line of household products manufactured by Reckitt Benckiser.
Chemical structure of chloroxylenol
The key ingredient which defines its unique antiseptic property is an aromatic chemical compound in chemistry known as chloroxylenol (C8H9ClO). This makes up 4.8% of Dettol's total mixture, with the rest composed of pine oil, isopropanol, castor oil soap, caramel, and water. Because several of the ingredients are insoluble in water, Dettol produces a white emulsion of oil droplets when diluted during use. Apart from its low toxicity and low metal corrosivity, it is also relatively cheap compared to other disinfectants.[citation needed]
Dettol can also be used to treat acne in small quantities.[1] Its typical application is a remedy for boils (skin abscess) and mild forms of musculoskeletal tenderness/pain.[citation needed]
Like other household cleaners, Dettol is poisonous and should not be ingested. In an extreme case, a forty-two-year-old English man died from Dettol overexposure in May 2007.[2] Overuse of Dettol could provide a selective environment in which existing resistant bacteria can grow with little competition.
Dettol is also commonly used in Queensland, Australia, to kill feral Cane Toads (Bufo marinus), also known as the Giant Neotropical Toad or Marine Toad. Toads may be sprayed with a solution of Dettol or dabbed with the liquid.[citation needed] The substance is rapidly absorbed through the toad's skin causing sudden death as a result of toxic shock.[citation needed]

When I was teaching high school in California, I remember one of my students seemed visibly upset during class. I kept him after class to talk with him. He started crying, then convulsing. What I got out of him between sobs was that his parents were divorcing and he felt that he was to blame. Then, he really started shaking and put his head down, and then a TORRENT of bright red blood gushed out of his nose. Amazingly, though he was wearing white pants, not a drop hit his pants, but the blood splattered all over the floor like a crime scene.
My calls for help to the custodian went in vain...he was too busy jackin' off to girlie magazines in his office...so I did what I had to do, walked the boy to the dean's office, then came back, kept my next class out of the room and mopped up the blood myself.
The next day I received a letter from the principal reprimanding me for 1) being late to teach class, and 2) keeping my students ouf of class after the late bell had rung.
