Any E.P.s in the sticks had invites to.......
An English program workshop seminar in Bangkok. Apparently to be held from the 4th to the 8th of August.
For out of towners there is accommodation for the full period.
There has just been a Thai version of it and now they are holding the foreign version of it.
I’m not 100% sure what the schedual is because I can’t get my hands on it at present but it mentions......
“Talk on Teaching Methodologies” by Thais with PHDs .
It is being held at the Royal Banjar Hotel, which if I’m not mistaken is on soi 4 of Sukumvit.
I’m a local and have been asked to represent our E.P there. I was just wondering has anyone else heard about it.

Anyone else going?

Re: Any E.P.s in the sticks had invites to.......
Just found out about it today. Instead of having me go, my school is sending a sot, who instead of attending the seminar, will spend his days and nights in the bars. And they expect him to soberly report a summary of the program to our entire EP department. Please! The poor sot can't even write a coherent lesson plan, even when he sobers up.

Re: Any E.P.s in the sticks had invites to.......
^o.k I'll be there, I only got a quick glance at the time table so thanks stamp.
They couldn't have picked a better location IMHO but everything that goes on in that area doesn't really go on.
What's a SOT Zap? Now that more people are talking about it I'm feeling more comfortable. It just seems strange to...
A: Be in the loop
B: Be regarded as part of the Educational system in a positve manner by the powers that be.
C: Have a Government Department spend so much money on foreign staff, (that's scares me!)

Re: Any E.P.s in the sticks had invites to.......
I guessed that much but I've not heard it before. I'm guessing they'll be several there. If you live in the Sticks it'll be very tempting, even if you're not a sot.
I'm going but I won't be able to do the late evening things due to other obligations.

It has all to do with the Ministry of Education's goal to improve the quality of English Programs. IMO the reasons are obvious. EPs are milk cows!
In February 2008 I wrote about steps made to improve the quality of EPs. http://www.ajarnforum.net/vb/872389-post3.html (New government checks ?)
This workshop is one of the results.

Stamp,
Have you seen a copy of the new curriculum? I got a copy yesterday, and it does look like an improvement.

I hope this is one of the better courses. It seems many courses are doomed to fail here unless a Thai boss attends with his E.P manager and sees it with his own eyes. I get the odd ferrang coming to my school wantng to implement some of my ideas and reading scheme. When they get back to their own school they start off doing it but the second it steps on someones toes, they're told to stop. I'd like to see these seminars held in school that have relatively normal kids who excel because of the quality teaching, school ethos and high standards of learning. i want evidence of outstanding studenmts works written and spoken and compulsory attendence from bosses who can implement changes. I know dream world again.
