Thread: TCT tests

The foreign teachers at my school sat the TCT eqivalency tests almost 4 months ago now, we were told to check the TCT web site for the results after 1 month. We have been checking, but there are no results. I asked the office staff to call them up, but nobody answers the telephone!
Anybody having the same problems?

The guys I "work" with who did the TCT tests in April all got their results back reasonable quickly, including the lucky chappie who passed all 4 sections (how rare is that?). However, a buddy is constantly checking the TCT website and he's mentioned that it's all gone a bit quiet on the testing front (no mention made, apparently, but I haven't checked it myself). Perhaps we can deduce that something is going on behind the scenes vis-a-vis the Tests (maybe making them understandable or, heaven forbid, easier). I'll ask him later.

In case you checked this site already and no reults were shown, you can assume that you failed all four sections.

Thanks for the info, Stamp.

Nice to see that the courtesy of the TCT is still in tact (err, Thai manners, anyone?). At least I have the decency to tell my students when they've spent time and money that they've failed.

Add several more guys (who have been conned out of their hard earned cash) to the list... it'll only get longer if we keep taking these ridiculous "tests". Is anyone out there still considering taking these tests?

Last time because you'd then be fed up with it, or last time because these jackasses only allow three attempts? Somchai told us that we were very welcome to try and pass the tests three times (and pay for the privilege. of course) before the locals would say "sayonara". Is that your understanding also?

Is the test the same each time you've taken it?

Good luck with it Stamp. I'm banking on getting the hell out of here before the shit hits the fan in 2010... if this country even makes it that far. I won't be taking it once. I'll save my B12k and put it towards a ticket out of here.

The second test (April 2008) had more pratical questions compared with December 2007 which was all !@#$%^&* theory.

Second time: general study, passed 0/3
Third time: will study Grad.Dip.TP. books, will pass ?????

If I don't pass any sections again, I will consider a Thai Grad. Dip. T.P. course.

Would it be unreasonable for the TCT to provide the study materials for the exam? I don't expect too many people to pass the exams based on a post grad qualification without studying. If the tests were easy to pass without studying then what was the point of the exams (apart from the extraction of money)?

Stamp, from what other teachers told me, the exams seem to have questions with a Thai culture bent. That means reading western material might only be partially useful. You've done the exams so you know that already. Hopefully they would get rid of the "opinion" questions next time.

Good on yer. I love my wife too, naturally, but it also might be quite nice for her to see the outside world! She's keen to give it a go now, whereas before she never fancied leaving LOS.

Less folks are spending their hard-earned cash on it than they expected and they really want to extract the cash from each and every one of us... as we knew was the case all along.

By "higher " pass rate I'll theorise that they would like it to jump from the currently meager figures being bandied about on the forum to a much more respectable 100%.

Nope. They missed a trick there... they could charge for that too!

Answered your own question there, mate.

Stamp, do you need to pass all four tests in the same session to get the TCT license?

Is it not possible to pass (say) Test 1 in one session and pass (say) Test 3 and 4 in the next session, leving you with Test 2 to complete the set next time they put the tests on?

As far as I know, no. For every section you pass, you will get a certificate. I am still waiting for my December 2007 section 1 certificate though.

With the four certificates you meet the TCT educational requirements. Completed with a certificate of the Thai Language, Culture and Ethics course and proof of one year experience you are eligible to get your TCT Teacher License.
