It's looks like you got pretty lucky and got off easy. There are plenty of countries that would have left you to rot for several years. It's sort of amazing really. The Thais will toss you in jail for cursing at an immigration official, but not for someone falsifying documents to teach the nations children. Strange place we live in.

Wouldn't they go after currently working teaches first? Rather than retired and out of the game. Giving those who are, a tip off and the chance to leg it? If there are no more cases being reported soon then i doubt there's a list.

I am not going to name the judge, it would serve no purpose. The offence is not a fixed penalty offence - a lot will depend on how the judge views the severity, the probation reports and other factors such as age.
Don't we have similar 'justice' in our own countries? Two drivers are in court for similar offences - one is a celebrity who was three times over the legal alcohol level and 50mph over the legal speed limit and Joe Soap, just over the legal limit and 10mph over the speed limit; both are found guilty but Joe Soap is given the heavier sentence and the celebrity gets the minimum. Is that justice?

I was 'caught' when I renewed my extension, others will be when they renew either their extension or work permit.
I saw the list and so did my wife and I do not care if you believe me or not. The probation officer asked me if I knew one of the names on the list who worked at the (unamed) school, the first name is not a common one but not unusual and will not be prudent for me to publish it here.
When, not 'if', when someone else is caught will they be as honest as I and report it here or will they come on here and say 'A friend of mine...' as normally happens when the mean 'I...'?

    Again think what you want.

Hippo is telling you what happened to him. Do you think he is proud of what happened. Hell no, he is just being a damn good guy and trying to help people.

You on the other hand are speculating about something you know basically jack shit about.

This is what I don't get. You were retired for a couple years already. Not saying at all it was right to do but you had sort of "gotten away with it" already. 3 years later it comes up on a retirement extension of stay that has nothing to do with working. You don't even have a WP now right Hippo?

I've always found people appreciate it when I look them in the eye and tell them straight up about my qualifications. I'm finishing re-upping my 2 year degree so all prerequisites are out of the way to go directly into my major but much of the silliness I studied the last year will never be used as soon as I close the books. Some was helpful of course, like an Excel 2007, class but I'm far prouder of my life experience and I think being up front about that will be respected in the kind of place that's a good one to work at.

Thanks for updating us on this Hippo! Green sent!

Would you mind if we renamed the title to something about being caught using a fake degree after the fact? Then we can make it a sticky as a warning for newbies. Any ideas for the new title Hippo or do you want it left as is?

    Cheers!

P.S. Where do you ride all of those KMs, I thought you're in BKK, do you have a traffic free / friendly route?

I also think it was strange that it happened so long after you'd finished. Perhaps it was because your name was found in a raid at a certain time?

I committed an offence and as it was within the statute of limitations, I was prosecuted.

I live in Lat Phrao/WangHin. My usual start time is first light when it is not too hot or too busy on the roads. My first stop is normally the PTT gas station just past Future Park on Ram Intra where I have a coffee and decide where to go depending on weather conditions and the day. I have 12 routes and variations on those based on that stop. My HathaiRat/SaiMai route is sundays and holidays only because HathaiRat Road is normally too busy. If it looks like I'm heading into the wind, then I'll turn round at the Suan Siam junction and head back along Ram Intra and Lat PlaKhao but that means I'm going the same way as the rush hour traffic! In the hot season, I limit myself to about 60kms/day.
Today's run was a pleasant 45km - WangHin, Ram Intra, Suan Siam, SeriThai, Nawamin, Kaset/Nawamin.

Did you find out in the course of going through this how long the statute of limitations is?

I thought he said it was 7 years. Maybe I read it wrong.

Yep there is a link on my school's website for "Employer verification of degree." They will provide information as to whether or not one has graduated, they year and what sort of degree they earned.

I've split off 24 posts into a new thread: http://www.ajarnforum.net/vb/the-sta...-s-thread.html

If you wish to discuss the process by which schools verify degrees, plase use the new thread.

    ^Good idea.

What happened with Hippo. I can't seem to locate the post.

Sounds like it worked out okay in any case.

    Good on you Hippo.

He paid a 3000 baht fine and got a suspended thingy...so as long as he keeps his nose clean he is fine.
Daniel Bedingfield claimed that his new album is what it would sound like if Sting, Stevie Wonder and Micheal Jackson were in a basement together - I haven't got the album so I'll have to imagine the sound of a blind bloke and a Geordie kicking the shit out of a pedophile.
