    Teachers Council of Thailand Test

    Hi.

I did two of the Teachers' Coucil of Thailand Tests for Teachers yesterday.

I have searched for any comments/information about these tests on the Internet and there seems to be almost nothing. I find this amazing, given the controversy that they have produced among English Language teachers in Bangkok (and elsewhere, I presume). Is there a thread about this somewhere?

    Thanks.

Re: Teachers Council of Thailand Test

Same here. Took 2 tests, read every post on ajarn... No help. Tests 1 and 3 were pretty nasty and other ppl tell me 2 and 4 were awful as well.

Test 1 has an English language test which was good but the IT test was ridiculous. Questions like:
Which of the following is information?
    a. 20% of students passed an exam in 2008
    b. 28% of schools in Songkhla are pre-schools
    c. In the 2008 elections, 28% voted for Bob, 36% for Jane, etc.
    d. same as a but different numbers
    e. Same as b but different numbers

We had 2 software developers and an IT teacher with an IT degree sit down and discuss the IT test. It was appalling. None of us knew the correct answers and were reduced to guessing on a majority of the questions.

Test 3 has more cohesion but it consists of the same questions over and over again. You need the full 150min to read the 40 page test and answer all the questions. One section consists of 8 Identical exercises which each have 5 questions(40 questions total). Each set consists of a one-paragraph reading followed by 5 questions that ask you what is the inependent variable, dependent variable, hypothesis, etc. They tested the exact same knowledge a total of 8 times on one test.

This is actually the first time I've had to take a terribly written test. It feels rather oppressing(HELP I'm being oppressed!). Anyway, we're compiling a study guide and seminar for only 3000Baht and we guarantee you pass or else refund your 1000Baht test fee(JUST JOKING!).

Fortunately, we sent in a ringer. We had an MScEd sit the 4 exams and if he(or she) fails, the tests are invalid. We're not going to tell them who this person is but if they fail, well you know...

Does anybody know when the test results will be available? I have a link for the TCT site where the results are (supposed to be) displayed, but I have not been able to find anyone who knows when they are due to be published.

When he or she fails the exam which they inevitably will cos the exams are nonense, what happens next? Absolutely nothing. Like everything here they don't want to know, they don't want ideas that work because suddenly you might have a few people exposing the reality of their useless education system. Too many people make too much money by delivering a lousy product. All they'll do is repackage the course into a new name, wait a year or so until a whole load of newbies have arrived and inflict the same nonense again.

Re: Teachers Council of Thailand Test

I asked my school's Personnel Department to check the date of the publication of the results and they say it will be in "about a month" (no actual date specified).

For the three previous tests it was two to three months after the test dates.

Yep. I understand how it could take a 'motivated and competent' person most of the morning before the lunch break to overlay an answer sheet onto the 200 odd tests that were administered and then post the results. So 1 to 3 months isn't particularly surprising....

....and you know that the examiners marking the test, wouldn't have even understood the questions themselves, they'd have just been given the multiple choice test marking template and gone tick tick tick.

    Absolute idiocy
