What a major difference from teaching primary. . In my 4 years of teaching I have always taught P1-P5, so this was def a big change for me.
Too early to tell which I like better, but I def like the freedom that comes with teaching at the University (schedule flexibility, less useless paperwork, not having to be there if Im not teaching ect. . ) I almost felt like I was sneaking out today when I left early after my classes. . lol. . . I also like the fact that the school treats me like an adult, and love that I do not have a Thai teacher in the room with me at all times. .
The negatives: lack of materials ie teaching materials, student textbooks, any type of guidance from coordinator ect. . but those come with positives as well because I can create and use my own materials that focus on the important items I want them to learn.
but like I said it was my first day...give me a couple of weeks and Im sure I'll have plenty to complain about. .![]()
Hope it all goes well
what classes are you teaching. Its a a Rajaphat right?
Too long in Exile, too long not singing my song.

Too long in Exile my friend, Baby you can never go home again.
teaching :
English for Business 3 (airline students)
English for Marketing 2 (english majors)
English for Hotel 2 (tourism majors)
only three classes? Full load? I am full at the same but teach either 3 or 4 more classes at OT.
No what I mean is our university and most I know count 3 hours a week as one class. I have 5 classes that meet twice a week for an hour and a half. I have one I teach for 3 hours once a week on monday. So I have a teaching load of 6 classes or 18 credits or units. So I have 9 hours a week of paid overtime.
If you don;t mind me asking, what's the ball park figure for teaching at this level, and what qualifications do you need.

What's their English like?
In Suratthani yeah?
@ AO same with me. . 6 - 3 hour classes = 18 hours. . there are 2 different Eng Hotels classes. . not the same students. .but mine is not counted as overtime. . anything above my 18 will be OT. . Pretty nice deal you got there with the OT
yeah Po3try. . their English is not great at all. . I was actually surprised. . although it varied greatly between the two classes I had today. Both classes were Eng for Bus 3 and one class was far above the other.
Have fun with that teaching the same curriculum. Salaries vary but most universities start you only at about 27,000 or so which includes housing allowance. At all government universities there are basically no pay rises.
This is where I got luck I am at a private university where I get 6.5-11 percent up every two years. Needless to say I have been there a long time. Plus I was able to start a bit higher than a government uni.
Its hard to get a gig at a uni other than the rajaphats as its mostly word of mouth. I have only taught university for ever. My private university Monday to Friday, and then a Saturday morning gig at a government university. Government universities usually pay very well and often tax free in their conversations programs they open to the public.
Normaly you need a masters minimum

It doesn't surprise me unfortunately! My M6/1 which is heading to uni next year are OK, but the class is carried by a few good speakers, they're good at writing but speaking can be a problem. I'll find out next week if anyone's applied for Suratthani and warn them
Yep, well matayoum![]()
