    P.E Teacher in Thailand?

What opportunities are available for a P.E Teacher in Thailand?

What sort of experience/qualification is needed and what sort of pay/benefits scale are we looking at? Less than other area's of teaching?

Any other relevant information regarding the topic you could suggest would also be appreciated.

Please keep the negative nancy, glass half empty posts for another time please. Thanks guys.

I'm a P.E. teacher in Thailand, among other things...and I don't have one positive thing to say about it. But, then again I am American and P.E. class in America means playing soccer, basketball, dodgeball, volleyball etc...Maybe when you say P.E. you mean physical education and learning about the body and how to stay healthy....real P.E. So instead of writing anything negative...I'll just say trying to teach my 8 and 10 year old children how to play any sport is very difficult. I have reverted to simple variations of "freeze tag" and relay races. Even with these simple games the children complain of being tired and ask to go back inside....sorry this reply ended up being a bit negative, I tried.

That's fine Andrew. Can you give me a little more background on your situation?

What type of school are you teaching at?

What quals did you need to get the job

    What is the pay?

    Teaching in english or thai?

What sort of facilities are available to you for your class?

How large are the class sizes?

What sort of out of school activities are you required/encouraged to run/attend?

Andrew, I sympathize with you. I grew up with sport, and hoped my kids would as well. This country has no inclination to play sport or to develop a team attitude. Their are little to no facilities, the teachers cant even run in some cases.

My kids just passed a ping pong class without ever seeing a table. See how many freeking times you can bounce the ball up and down. Best of luck you guys.

I have often wondered about the sports here as I see very little being done, mostly it's just marching around like twats in the mid day heat. I've often suggested stuff like football, rugby, softball etc but I am met with blank stares.

They don't play much sport in Thai schools do they?

When I was at school we did PE twice a week, once in the gym and once in the swimming pool AND we did sport twice a week as well. That was the compulsory stuff.... You could have chosen to do more!

We had an hour and 10 minutes a day, that included 15 for showers. Was great. Grades 7-12.

So is it realistic to think about P.E as a career at international schools in Thailand?

What are the requirements? Wages? Etc

Would love more info if possible.
