Brings back some memories.
As staying is not a viable alternative, do your best to optimize your move. You are promised a very good recomendation and may have some benefit from your students' superior performance.
Get energerized. Search for a derisable position. And of course don't mention the Filipino issue during your job search or interview.
Do the best for yourself and it is likely you will look back and consider the change a lucky break.

Sorry to hear and all that RH...everything happens for a reason...
I think there may be a lesson to learn here...I've adopted the same strategy in Thai schools as I had with my home government and police...only speak when spoken to and say as little as possible when you must speak.
I try to be invisible...
if I must attend a meeting I volunteer nothing...I take a reactionary approach...
I never have a problem with anything, if things get too much it's time to leave anyway...but Thais are not problem solvers they are problem avoiders and if you keep bringing up problems then you become the problem and you will be gotten rid of...
I never miss a class if it can be helped...
I dress accordingly...
The main culprit I've noticed in the ongoing problems facing falang in Thai schools is the polar opposite view of how one should conduct oneself....In the west we believe drawing attention to oneself is the way forward...standing out in the crowd is hammered into us as the way to success.
In Asia this couldn't be more opposite as evidenced by the common saying "the nail that sticks out gets hammered".
If we want to live in this place with as little discomfort as possible...then we have to know where we are and adapt...otherwise it's going to be a rough ride...
I am not saying that RH is responsible for what's transpired in his situation as I know almost nothing about it...I offer this as general food for thought...and as ammunition to those who disagree to facilitate their tearing me a new asshole...![]()

Have you read the post clearly Thaitanium? At least four teachers (of which I'm one) have left because of these teachers. In this circumstance it seems a little perverse to try and finger the farang for the blame. It wasn't a case of us 'drawing attention' to ourselves - we were attacked.

No, but the rest of your post suggested that you believed he probably inflamed the situation (whether unwittingly or not). Let me assure you that whilst I'm not party to the ins and outs of Robin's two years at this school (I haven't spoken to him since he replaced me), when I got (on here)the message: 'I really need to speak to you, mate', I knew it could only be about one thing. Sure enough, it was.
Take it from me, there's no need to go all deep and culturally relativist here; we're talking out and out operators.
---Update---
oh whatever
You make some good points here, which I'll respond to individually, but taken in total, it sounds like you've become like the hive mind WITHOUT adding your own uniqueness. The Borg analogy is so perfect for Thailand. In total, you are doing what Thai slaves do to survive. When I say slaves, I mean all the indentured government and corporate workers who are beholden to their bosses and must cower like frightened children to keep their position.
A very Thai way of doing things that basically tells everyone that you are subservient individual without backbone or independent ways.
Invisibility = cowering without being seen.
I do exactly the same thing because the meetings are primarily a way for those who think they are higher than you to demonstrate their control by creating things for you to do. Also very boring. Let's end them as soon as possible.
Thais are problem avoiders. Good point. It's smart not to continually bring bad news to anybody. If I bring a problem to my boss, I also bring several solutions.
I do this out of some deep seeded, almost obsessive work ethic. I hate being late or missing class.
We all have our uniforms. I just wish I'd been a successful punk. They've got the best. I do wear Dickies, however. Trying to keep it real despite me tie.
This is disheartening to hear from a Westerner. I'm not saying being an attention whore for its own sake, but this idea that you have to camouflage yourself, or hide altogether just strikes me as spineless.
If I had a satang for every empty Asian saying...
I don't want to be uncomfortable. I'd rather not sell out my sole to just keep a nothing job, working for brain dead bureaucrats who couldn't think their way out of a wet paper bag.
"Goddamn it Lord, bless oh ye this bacon..."
George Liquor American
Nice retort, mate...
I'm not a zebra striper, so I'll just respond to the general jist of your reply...
I personally don't feel like I'm selling anything but my time...I'm also not here to climb any ladders or win any prizes...I also don't have a need to garner self worth or respect from a nothing job in a nothing system...I am a realist and I recognize that this is one of few jobs I can get in Thailand and I've made the choice to live and work here.
I've also matured enough to let go of the pointlessness that you seem to hold so tightly to...namely your western sense of importance. I've been out of the west long enough for those petty, childish feelings to dissipate and I'm now left with a quiet calm as to who I am and It truly doesn't feel like I'm giving or losing anything more than time...
With that in mind...why would I want to make my working and living life hell just to hold on to some western cultural conditioning that I've come to see as pointless? I don't think I'm losing anything by doing what I'm doing...it's just making life easier...and that's my goal...what's yours?
