While we have you .. what do you recon Creature Mark could do to supplement his meager income during his stay in Thailand? I'm sure he has lots of expensive hiso dates to finance. He's awfully cute you know.

I figure after turning 16 motorcycles, a bunch of guitars and amps, playing in bands, I was able to earn about 7-8 grand a month average. Never did privates. I hate privates.

Salaries for Thai professionals are not that low... sure if you compare your salary to that of an uneducated day laborer, then English teacher's salary doesn't look so bad.

But if you compare it Thai's with a degree working as professionals in private companies, then the salaries are dismal.... I have put a link to Thai salary guide from 2011 below.

    http://www.adecco.co.th/Uploads/Adec...Guide-2011.pdf

You will notice that for most of positions the entry level salary "Low end" with 0-5 years experience are in the 15-30k per month range.

Once you get to 5 years experience, there are only a few out of hundreds of job titles on the "lowest end" making less that 30k per month and most are making well above 30k after 5 years.

yes and no. those numbers look like multinational level compensation packages at the higher ranges, mostly inaccessible to thais unless theyre bilingual in some capacity. the mins look spot-on, though.

"30k and you live like a king in paradise" is nothing but a myth perpetuated by TEFL mills.

Schools are paying more but scum agencies are taking anything extra. If you are in Bangkok and you are earning 30k a month after a year. Youre doing it wrong.

    True story:

Owner of the school: How salary do you expect to get?
Me: I am hoping for at least 28,000 baht.
Oots: Welll, we'll pay you 30,000 baht.
Me: Wow. That's very kind of you. Thank you.

(The day I was going to get my first paycheck)

Oots: I have decided that your salary will be 35,000 baht.

I think patriotism and nationalism should be avoided as much as religion and prayer.

there are true bilingual new grads out there making good money. not just english, but korean, japanese, and mandarin as well. the "minimal capacity" folks dont get the multinational gigs that offer the salaries adecco is quoting.

30k is not the sales pitch..."youll make 5x the avg thai" is the sales pitch.

    .
I work for a local 100% Thai owned company and aassure you these salary ranges are pretty accurate. Also it is important to note that it is bey rare for any employees make the min listed (most make some where between the min and max even just starting)

Stamp, I'm in a similar situation. Tomorrow will be my last payday and the next school won't start until the 10th of May. (Just got off the phone, no English Camps, no Summer school classes). They will pay 25 k but I'm hoping for private lessons in a larger city.

I have credit card debt to service, which takes half my salary. But here, you can always get a good Thai meal for about 35 Baht. And you can find an okay apartment for a few grand. And get about on some Honda Wave.

Those border runs are a terrible drain though. Just made one and it cost me 5 grand. Make sure you get reimbursed for your B-Visa and that the school pays for the WP!

    Good luck,
    Mel
