If I were to work in a international school in Thailand, would the UK student Loan Company, be able to track me down and take a cut of my money, regarding my BA Hons and PGCE student loan repayment?
I have heard that if you don't inform the SLC, that you will be working abroad, then there could be penalties. Is this true and what will the penalties consist of?
Just curious to the 'ins-and-outs,' the working of it all...
Any advice/info'/comments please?

Right, I have kind of answered my own question here, by calling the SLC myself. 845 073 8891
If anyone is interested, this is what I have found out:
If you don't inform the SLC that you are moving aboard to work, then you could be charged £120 a month.
Once working aboard, the minimum salary threshold differs per country. In England you have to be earning over £15,000 approx. before they start taking money from you (it’s something low like £90 a year approx. if earning the minimum, I think) in Thailand the minimum yearly salary is £12,600 (2012).
Good to know.
(also, I think I read some where, that you will have to pay the international money transfer costs, anyone know more about this? Will this be a big increase to the payments?)
If anyone wants to add to this feel free?

criminal behaviour
I tried to contact them before and I needed all sorts of documents that are in England so they wouldn't entertain me. So I just left it. fuck 'em.
If any of you guys are concerned about this or want to make extra payments, then see the below paying in details.

I thought that too Po3try, and didn't inform them that I was working abroad (3 years teaching in BKK), or I didn't think I did. However, some how they knew and haven't charged me the £120 extra per month.
Which is good, as that would have been an extra £4320 added on.
I have also read, that they can demand full payment in one go, if you fuck 'em about too much.
...not sure how they'll do this, clearing your Bank? Black listing you? Bringing around the bail-lifts? Selling on the debt to some Thai heaves, if any of that is even remotely possible?
I'm trying to change my thinking from 'fuck 'em', or 'fuck the man'. I am slowly beginning to learn, that they will fuck you back even harder (I have fewer and fewer bridges that aren't burnt and I don't know what my future situation will be) ~ this doesn't alter the amount of pure hatred I Have for them.

student loans: the best way to keep the masses down.![]()
..
They'll fuck you back because there are many of them and so few of you.
If you're outside the country I can't see them seriously fucking you....
Too many bigger fish on their plate to fry.
Alas though...you will at some point have to deal with them, and if it's gone to a private collection agency....it won't be pretty.
I'd keep in contact with the Government Student Loan folks....Figure out what their bottom line is on the issue.
under the current economic circumstances....you have a strong argument.
Good luck.
---Update---
Good luck.

The threshold for pre 2012 students is currently £15795 but post 2012 students now enjoy a £21000 threshold, probably due to being raped by the higher tuition fees & gang raped if they choose to work in the public sector, as a teacher say, with the new new decimated conditions.
The threshold for Thailand used to be a ridiculous £6000 but has now been raised to a slightly less ridiculous £9480.
Overseas thresholds
I worked in contracting after graduation & their attempts to find me were laughable so the mere thought that they will find you in Thailand is hilarious.
As previous BMs have intimated, they can go forth and...![]()
That's what Thailand is - a haven for those fleeing from student loan debt. You're in the Promised Land, bro. Fuck the man.
hiding out here works only if you dont intends returning! If you go back take lots of KY for the buttf*^king the Glasgow boys are going to do to you!
I am sure you apply for UK pension one day they can take a pretty big chink if not all of it from every cheque until debt is paid off.
Sorry, but small fish always gets fucked. You ain't Jamie Dimon stupids.
student loans are the absolute WORST kind of debt to have. it never goes away. and, yes, it can be deducted from anything: salary, pension, you name it. and dont be surprised to see travel restrictions placed on debtors before long (especially student loans). its coming![]()
