Maybe, depending on your situation.
Definitely
Not in a million years!
Hi all,
It's been a long fricken time since I posted on the forum. I hope all the regulars (AO, KK...etc....) are doing well (there are probably new regulars by now!).
Lately I been kicking the idea around of returning to live for awhile and possibly teaching. It's been about 5 years since I left so I am wondering with all the new
regulations if it is worth the trouble.
I am going to turn this into a poll but as always I appreciate all your comments.

lot of those guys have moved elsewhere.
As for coming back, well I look at it this way, unless the things in your personal world that made you leave in the first place have changed then I would say that it's not. Come for a holiday, check things out but remember all those things that drove you away in the first place.
For me only thing that would make me consider returning to live in Thailand are having "fuck-off" money. And if I had "fuck off" money I'd probably live in Japan.

The worst job in Thailand must be the man who has to sit down with a blue marker pen and mark a number two on the two-baht coins to stop people thinking they are one-baht coins.
Well to be honest I have been living here for 12 years and each year the salary for teachers is going down in real terms, and even more so in the last five years with inflation, salaries are still being advertised at virtually the same rates as they were 10 years ago. So like an earlier poster if I had the off money I too would be in Japan. Only the girls seem to make it worthwhile and they are pretty pretty in Japan.

Esse Qvam Vederi! Fortis Cadere Cedere Non Potest
A lot depends on your attitude towards semi poverty and officialdom etc. If you have no student loans or other foreign debt to service, no family to support, it might beat China. You might find your own niche. A school with hands-off attitude. An easy going job. You might save 1/3 your salary. But if you are truly qualified, other countries pay more, much more!

Hi BKK Phil,
It's not about my own personal situation although I do mention that in the poll as one of the options.
I am just trying to get a general census of what people (farang) think about this that have been
living there since I've been gone. Especially with how the regulations have changed (paperwork)
over the past few years.
Thanks, I hope all is going well over there.
I reckon it is worthwhile coming back to Thailand. Why I say this, is because if you asking this question in the first place, there must be some reason to leave where you already are.
Factors that come into such a move, would be (as you probably know already), age, financial situation (mentioned above), your future plans and your career prospects (or lack of).
Really don't meant this to sound negative ... to each his/her own. But for me ... in the 2 + years I've been gone I haven't even had a desire to go back for a holiday. I loved my teaching gig and met some fantastic peeps. So thankful for my time and experiences there.
I had to say maybe. Without more information as to your circumstances it's an impossible call to make for another person.
If you are content with less money but the Thai lifestyle then yes. If you want to improve your skills and or finances then no.
Nice to see you round Traveller2.
We could all sit outside on banana lounges discussing the best way to rebuild a 4WD transmission and agree, through shared stories of conquests supporting our assertions, that there is no basis to the proposition that those least assured of their persuasions are the first to condemn others for theirs.

I would like to but realistically can't. I had some good years over there and partied like crazy, drank like a fish, taught english and made some decent friends. My body is creaking from those years, but I never say never about anything.
To be honest though, It's when you return for holidays you do see the general incompetence you lived with day by day, and it is not as cheap as it once was.
When I was in America a guy told me to 'have a nice day' but I didn't, so I sued him
I miss living in Nakhon Pathom but holidaying in Thailand with a pocket full of Aussie dollars is fun too![]()
After 5 years of living in Treasure Island I'll be fucking off back to Thailand the minute it becomes viable financially (working on that, see the update to my other thread here).
Tax , tax, tax, nanny fuckin state, government intrusion into family life at virtually every level, elf n safety /risk aversion makes it virtually impossible for kids to have a normal childhood and the normal humdrum ups and downs of life are problematised to the extent that everybody can be the victim of something or other , therapeutic education, therapeutic fuckin everything in fact, kids not gettin the benefit of engagement from the adults around them cos they are mutually suspicious of one another thanks to the child protection industry which tells us there is a predatory pedo on every fuckin street corner, a political elite who haven't got the creativity, balls or imagination to deal with the big issues with their hilarious "we're in this together" - Fuck off "WE" are, "you" patently are not, etc etc etc.
